Ring gauges

To measure the amount of gage wear on a used bit, set the ring gauge on two cones and measure the distance between the ring gauge and the third cone in fractions of an inch, or in millimeters.

Diameter per the standard o-ring chart or standard o-ring gauge. See Figure 3-10. 

Ring gauge—usually separate minimum and maximum gauges. 

Taper gauges are used to check the male and female features of tapered workpieces. A taper ring gauge is used to check the male work-piece feature, i.e. a shaft while a taper plug gauge is used to check the female workpiece feature, i.e. a hole - Fig. 5.15. 

Making real measurements an external (cylindrical plug limit gauge) and an internal (ring gauge) measurement is implemented... 

Sequence of top, body, and bottom gauges. For example, 18-20-18 = 18-gauge top, 20-gauge body, and 18-gauge bottom. "Removable head secured with bolted ring with screw draw-up. 

Let s consider an industrial boiler. You may need at least three of these previous mentioned o-rings just to prevent leaks and drips in a simple hydronie or steam boiler. Raw water comes into the boiler room with pipes, gauges, valves and instrumentation. All these fittings would probably use Nitrile rubber o-ring seals to give long-term leak free service. 

Effective and well planned maintenance can reduce the operating cost of your pumps and other ec]uipment as this example demonstrates. With differential pressure gauges on the pump, an amp meter and flow meter you can determine if strict tolerance parts arc worn. This indicates the need to take the pump into the shop for corrective procedures. If you don t do it, you are wasting your annual operating budget. As we mentioned in Chapter 6, the Wear Rings should be called Efficiency Rings. Now you know why.
