Rift Valley fever vaccines

Treatments with immune globulin vaccines are useful against Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever, Rift Valley fever, Bolivian hemorrhagic fever, and Lassa fever Yellow fever vaccine is the only established and licensed vaccine for a hemorrhagic fever several others are under development... 

F. Vaccination. Vaccination is the preferred method of biological defense. Fully licensed vaccines are currently available for anthrax, cholera, plague and smallpox. Vaccines for botulinum toxoid, Q fever, Rift Valley fever, tularemia, and VEE currently exist as IND products and would be available only under protocol with informed consent, therefore would not be readily available on the battlefield. No vaccine is currently available either FDA licensed or under IND status, for glanders, brucellosis, Staphylococcus enterotoxin B, ricin, or T-2 mycotoxins. 

Some vaccines also have applicability for diseases of domestic animals (eg, Rift Valley fever and Venezuelan equine encephalitis). In addition, vaccines are provided to persons who may be occupation-ally exposed to such agents (eg, laboratory workers, entomologists, and veterinary personnel) throughout government, industry, and academe. 

Vaccines are available for yellow fever (YF), Rift Valley fever (RVF), and Argentine hemorrhagic fever (Junin virus, JUN). Cross protection against Bolivian hemorrhagic fever may also be provided by the Junin vaccine. These are the only vaccines available for any of this set of diseases and will be effective only if personnel are immunized before exposure. Only yellow fever vaccine is licensed by the FDA the others are used in the United States under END protocols and can only be obtained through the CDC.
