Gyratory Riddles These screens are driven in an oscillating path by a motor attached to the support shaft of the screen. The gyratory riddle is the least expensive screen on the market and is intended normally for batch screening. [Pg.1774]

Tubercles consisted of hard, hlack oxide shells overlaid with friable carbonate-containing deposits. In places, several laminate black magnetite shells existed. The outer crust could be crushed by gentle pressure with a finger. Tubercles were riddled with white crystalline fibers. Other detritus was incorporated into the tubercle core and crust. Metal loss was less than 0.030 in. (0.076 cm) below each tubercle. Wall thickness was almost 0.25 in. (0.64 cm). [Pg.64]

The weld was riddled with mildly undercut, gaping pits. Attack was confined to fused and heat-affected zones, with a pronounced lateral or circumferential propagation (as in Fig. 6.10). The resulting perforation at the external surface was quite small. Pits were filled with deposits, friable oxides, and other corrosion products. Black plugs embedded in material filling the gaping pit contained high concentrations of iron sulfide. Bulk deposits contained about 90% iron oxide. Carbonaceous material was not detected. [Pg.147]

The sidecar has three ingredients—perfect ingredients. Cognac, Cointreau, freshly squeezed lemon juice—when you make it right, you get a 10, maybe a 12.Tasted, the sidecar s sweet-to-sour sway, and back again, has the smart, sublime balance of a Zen riddle, served in a sleek glass. [Pg.132]

In these developments there were two distinct stages the first one, which dealt with the nearly linear oscillations, found its perfect algorithm in the theories of Poincare (both topological and analytical), which constitute the major part of this review here the discoveries were most striking as well as systematic. Numerous phenomena that had remained as riddles for many years, sometimes even for centuries, were systematically explained. We indicate in Part I of this chapter the qualitative aspect of this progress and in Part II, the quantitative one. [Pg.322]

Microporous catalysts are heterogeneous catalysts used in catalytic converters and for many other specialized applications, because of their very large surface areas and reaction specificity. Zeolites, for example, are microporous aluminosilicates (see Section 14.19) with three-dimensional structures riddled with hexagonal channels connected by tunnels (Fig. 13.38). The enclosed nature of the active sites in zeolites gives them a special advantage over other heterogeneous catalysts, because an intermediate can be held in place inside the channels until the products form. Moreover, the channels allow products to grow only to a particular size. [Pg.687]
