Rheumatic disease antirheumatic drugs

Benoral benorylate. benorilate benorylate. benorylate [ban] (benorilate [inn] paracetamol acetylsallcylate BenoraP ) is an aspirin-paracetamol ester, and these two pharmacologically active constituents are released systemically at different rates. It has cyclooxygenase inhibitor, nsaid analgesic, antiinflammatory and antirheumatic activity. It is used orally, particularly to treat the pain of rheumatic disease and other musculoskeletal disorders, as well as to treat fever, benoxaprofen [ban, inn, usan] (Opren ) is one of the propionic acid series of CYCLOOXYGENASE INHIBITORS with nsaid ANALGESIC. ANTIINFLAMMATORY and ANTIPYRETIC activity also effective for psoriasis. It was withdrawn due to adverse drug reactions. [Pg.47]

The relationship between hyaluronic acid, hyaluronidase and rheumatic diseases has been discussed by Smith, who examined the theory that the therapeutic action of salicylate in rheumatic fever might be due to inhibition of increased hyaluronidase activity, but concluded that there was little evidence to support this view. Recent work by others tends to support these conclusions . Nevertheless, the subcutaneous injection of hyaluronidase into the foot of the rat leads to the development of oedema which can be suppressed by anti-inflammatory drugs - . Dewes investigated the inhibition produced by a number of antirheumatic drugs administered subcutaneously and found phenylbutazone, amidopyrine, phenazone and cinchophen active, sodium salicylate less active, and acetylsalicylic acid virtually inactive. All the compounds were, however, given in high doses. Rechenberg has reviewed the actions of phenylbutazone on hyaluronidase in vitro, and on hyaluronidase-induced tissue permeability . ... [Pg.122]

Introduction - No new non-steroidal antirheumatic drug has been marketed in 1969. Various reviews have appeared which cover a variety of aspects of inflaranatlon such as the pathogenesis, etiology, and biochemical considerations. With the exception of gouty arthritis, the etiology and pathogenesis of rheumatic and arthritic diseases remain obscure. [Pg.225]
