Complexes of rhenium(bipyridine)(tricarbonyl)(picoline) units linked covalently to magnesium tetraphenylporphyrins via an amide bond between the bipyridine and one phenyl substituent of the porphyrin 19 exhibited no signs of electronic interaction between the Re(CO)3(bpy) nnits and the metalloporphyrin units in their gronnd states. However, emission spectroscopy revealed a solvent-dependent quenching of porphyrin emission upon irradiation into the long-wavelength absorption bands localized on the porphyrin. [Pg.199]

Rhenium(I) tricarbonyl-2,2 -bipyridine moieties were used to cap both ends of a poly fluorine, yielding Re-capped Re(bpy)(CO)3(py)-X-(py)(CO)3(bpy)Re 2+ polymers, where X = polyfluorene [51, 52], The polymers with and without the Re caps were spin-coated from their solutions in CH2C12 onto an ITO surface previously modified with a layer of poly(styrene sulfonic acid), doped with poly(ethylenedioxythiophene). The LED (light-emitting device) was then topped with a layer of Ca/Al. The photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence seen were consistent with the presence of [Re(bpy)(CO)3(py)]+ [158],... [Pg.32]

In the case of the rhenium(I) bipyridine tricarbonyl complexes with a phosphorous ligand such as 3a in Table I, both the MLCT absorption and the emission bands are blue shifted because of the stronger LF induced by the phosphorous ligand. This causes the lifetime of the MLCT excited state to be longer. The photophysical parameters of some t5rpical Re(I) complexes are smnmarized in Table I (5,26). [Pg.142]

In recent years, this section of this report has been dominated by the photochemical and photophysical properties of Re(CO)3(diimine)X complexes. Although the main deluge of research is over, there are still examples to be found. The photochemical/physical properties of monomer and polymer species with ReI(CO)3(phen) chromophores has been investigated by Wolcan and Ferraudi, and proton-controlled photoisomerisation of rhenium(I) tricarbonyl bipyridine linked to amine or azacrown ether groups by a styryl pyridine bridging ligand has been discovered by Perutz et alP... [Pg.178]

The synthesis of a series of polyfluorene 18 incorporated with chloro-tricarbonyl rhenium(I) 2,2-bipyridine complexes was reported (Scheme 10).78 Suzuki cross-coupling reactions were used to construct the main chain, and the... [Pg.174]

Direct excitation of the transition metal complex active in COj reduction was demonstrated in a photosystem composed of tricarbonyl(2,2 -bipyridin-ium)rhenium(I), /ac-Re(bpy)(CO)3X (X = C1, Br) as a light-active compound and a homogeneous catalyst [140-142]. Photosensitized reduction of carbon dioxide to CO proceeds in nonaqueous solutions (i.e., dimethylform-amide) including the rhenium(I) complex and TEOA as the sacrificial electron donor. The quantum efficiency for CO formation in the system corresponds to
