Retribution

Quahty assurance must remain independent of manufacturing so that problems can be reported freely to upper management without fear of retribution. QA should have oversight responsibihty for QC. A reporting stmcture helps to ensure the independence of both quahty units and conforms to both Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and ISO 9000 requirements.

Negative employee moral may manifest itself in an aspect of direct damage to company equipment as retribution. These effects may be disguised as accidental events in order to avoid persecution by the individuals involved. Other incidents may be perpetrated by outright terrorist activities. Incidental effects may develop into catastrophic incidents unbeknown even to the saboteur. The design of facilities should account for periods when management and labor relations may not be optimum and opportunities for vandalization could easily avail themselves. Where terrorist activity is ongoing suitable preventive measures must be instituted (i.e., increased security measures, barricades, etc.). 

All the objectives presented in Box 11.1 can be described as quality improvement in the structure and process to support improvement in each patient s health outcome. This support the patient medication care process presented in Fig. 3.1. Various problems and tools and models for improvement have been described in this book. Another approach to prevent medication errors and to improve care is to be open and continuously learn from mistakes. The basis for this is not to punish health care providers who make errors, as this may lead to less reporting of errors. In Britain, the government has taken steps away from this blame-culture (Wise 2001). In a declaration it is stated that honest failure should not be responded to primarily by blame and retribution, but by learning and by a drive to reduce risk for future patients. 

Cyberpunk science fiction drizzles in coercive pharmacotherapy. In the quintessential cyberpunk novel, Neuromancer ] 984) an addiction" to cyberspace becomes the target not of government, but corporate retributive malice. The protagonist has his delicate nervous system damaged with the forced application of a Russian mycotoxin to punish him for data thievery. As a condition of employment, his pancreas is replaced and his liver is blocked so that he cannot experience the effects of amphetamines. 

Forman extended this theme. Physicians who prescribed without consulting the stars and thereby harmed people were acting as instruments of divine retribution. God sent unrepentant sinners to evil physicians. In his c.1607 tract he ranted,... 

Why do we punish those who commit crimes (2) There are two main theories of punishment retribution and deterrence. (3) The first, retribution, argues that people who commit crimes deserve to be punished and that the punishment should fit the crime. (4) In other words, it is an eye for an eye philosophy. (5) Deterrence theory, on the other hand, posits that punishing offenders will help prevent future crimes. 

Mosca extricates Lady Would-be from a position in which his lie has placed her. He does so because he needs her service in the courtroom. We can be sure he will not hesitate to lie again to such a gullible listener. In this scene, Jonson prepares us for Sir Politic s downfall. Peregrine has been injured and will demand retribution. Though Sir Politic s lies have been ineffective, he must be punished for them. His punishment will be less severe than Volpone s, however, because his guilt is less grievous. At the conclusion of this subplot sequence, Jonson delivers us, with Lady Would-be, to the courthouse steps. 

I want what men have, I want to forsake responsibility for my emotions, to make mistakes with a little less retribution. I want my aggressive urges tafen for granted, I want to participate fully in any sport I choose.

I wanted to say that, even though I think William Jackson s point is well taken, it is something that we need to be concerned about, that a new faculty member who is perceived as being hired under a set-aside is a target for special retribution from faculty who are entrenched and who do not like the idea of their faculty quality being undermined. 

Reporting my new finding to the chief, including the changes made to the instrument settings, took a great deal of courage on my part, but the joy and excitement over this discovery far exceeded any retribution. 

Proceeding in this way gives a striking twist to the historical development in that van der Waals himself did not discover the r power law, although nowadays all molecular forces obeying this dependence are called Wan der Waals forces. One could say that the underexposure of van der Wacds theory for the surface tension received retribution by this name-giving. Of course the HdB method is more than 40 years younger than van der Waals theory. 

To clamour for equal or evett equitable retribution on the basis of the wages system is the same as to clamour for freedom on the basis of the slavery system. What you think just or equitable is out of the question. The question is What is necessary and unavoidable with a given system of production ... 

Forensic capability to guide attribution, retribution, and deterrence and... 

In a culture where honor is 0 important, arguments lead to affronts that demand retribution. The availability of guns increases the chance that the retribution may be deadly. In addiction, the knowledge that the other person may be armed and may begin acting violently may lead to preemptive first strikes. Once conflicts escalate, a man may be more apt to take a first strike...
