Using a retinal camera, an ophthalmologist photographs the retina of an eye. 

The retinas of the 3,654 Sydney residents who participated in the study were photographed with special cameras. Participants were mostly forty-nine years old or older. While the changes in the retinal arterioles predicted hypertension regardless of age, the association was strongest for people younger than sixty-five.
