Responsive pricing

Similarly, warehousing and distribution centers fail to function when products must move speedily through the pipeline. When market prices change as rapidly as computer components, Compaq s computers, which sit in distribution centers for several months, lose their value by the time they reach consumers. Dell s more responsive pricing is made possible by its fast-moving distribution channel. [Pg.265]

The price histories for the four isomers are given ia Reference 1. The average values started to increase drastically ia late 1973 owing to increases in world cmde oil prices. They also increased sharply from 1979—1985 in response to increased cmde oil prices and shortages of xylenes. From 1986—1992 the prices generally declined as availabiUty increased and cmde oil prices declined, except in 1989 when derivatives demand was strong and xylenes supply was tight. [Pg.423]

The annual United States import of vanilla beans jumped 34% in 1991, as importers and users replenished inventories (7). Indonesia was the largest suppher, accounting for 47% of the total the lower price for Indonesian beans is responsible for the increase in shipments. Users have been replacing Bourbon beans with Indonesian types, or blending in Indonesian beans, because they may still label their product as natural and meet other EDA specifications. [Pg.25]

The MTG process was developed for synfuel production in response to the 1973 oil crisis and the steep rise in crude prices that followed. Because methanol can be made from any gasiftable carbonaceous source, including coal, natural gas, and biomass, the MTG process provided a new alternative to petroleum for Hquid fuels production. New Zealand, heavily dependent on foreign oil imports, utilizes the MTG process to convert vast offshore reserves of natural gas to gasoline (59). [Pg.83]

The average prices of the batch centrifuge are shown in Fig. 18-154. All the models include the drive motor and control. In Fig. 18-154, the inverting filter, horizontal peeler, and the advanced vertical peeler are the premium baskets especially used for specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Control versatility with the use of programmable logic control (PLC), automation, and cake-heel removal are the key features which are responsible for the higher price. The underdriven, top-driven, and pendulum baskets are less expensive with fewer features. [Pg.1743]

Polyterpenes. Polyterpenes is one of the first classes of non-polar tack-ifiers to be developed. Terpene monomers are a by-product in the extraction of rosin from wood stumps or tree sap, and from the extraction of oils from citrus fruits. The latter is the dominant source. As such, polyterpene prices generally mirror those of citrus fruits, which fluctuate substantially from one growing season to the next. Terpenes like rosin are cyclic, see Fig. 6, which is partly responsible for their excellent solvent properties. [Pg.720]

Notwithstanding the guidance given below under Evaluation and selection of subcontractors, this requirement does not relieve you of the responsibility for ensuring the quality of subcontracted parts, materials, and services. Therefore, it would be unwise to place orders on a customer-specified subcontractor without first going through your evaluation and selection process. You can obviously take some short cuts but don t make assumptions. The customer will not be sympathetic when you are late on delivery or your price escalates. If you find a subcontractor that can meet all your product/service requirements at a lower price you can submit details to your customer for approval. [Pg.311]

Additionally, as a response to rising energy prices and uncertainty of supply, several states adopted appliance efficiency standards. At the federal level, the National Appliance Energy Consei vation Act of 1987 established the first national standards for refrigerators and freezers, furnaces, air conditioners, and other appliances. The Energy Policy Act of 1992 added national standards for incandescent and fluorescent lights, small electric motors, office equipment, and plumbing products. [Pg.462]

In response to the Arab embargo, and the attempt of OPEC to dictate the supply and price of petroleum, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) established the International Energy Agency (lEA) in November 1974. lEA membership included all of Western Europe, Canada, the... [Pg.582]
