With AICI3 and Ph3C+ SbClg as inititors, unsatisfactory results were obtained. With AICI3, the system turned black immediately on transferring the initiator into the polymerization tube, and a black precipitate was observed. After 24 h, on pouring the contents of the tube into methanol, no insoluble fraction was observed except the black residue observed earlier.

Bias corrections are sometimes applied to MLEs (which often have some bias) or other estimates (as explained in the following section, [mean] bias occurs when the mean of the sampling distribution does not equal the parameter to be estimated). A simple bootstrap approach can be used to correct the bias of any estimate (Efron and Tibshirani 1993). A particularly important situation where it is not conventional to use the true MLE is in estimating the variance of a normal distribution. The conventional formula for the sample variance can be written as = SSR/(n - 1) where SSR denotes the sum of squared residuals (observed values, minus mean value) is an unbiased estimator of the variance, whether the data are from a normal distribution...

In a radiometric depletion study (62) carried out in cattle, the concentrations of eprinomectin B, residues in muscle, injection site, fat, liver, and kidney were 6, 17, 30, 807, and 161 ppb, respectively, at 7 days postdosing, and declined to 3, 14, 14, 369, and 54 ppb, respectively, at 21 days after the treatment. In a nonradiometric study wiUr dairy cows dosed topically with 0.5-0.55 mg eprinomectin/kg bw, 5 ppb was the highest concentration of eprinomectin B residues observed in milk obtained at Ure fifth to sixth milking postdosing resi-dues in milk declined to 0.5 ppb by the 13th milking. 

The XAD-4 quaternary resin was cleaned by Soxhlet extraction and kept wet under water to minimize artifacts from the resin. An oily, yellow residue observed during concentration of the acidic eluants required an additional cleanup step. On the basis of the results of the resin blank experiments, it was necessary to clean the XAD-4 quaternary resin by batch process with saturated HCl/methanol prior to Soxhlet cleaning with solvents. The dihedral angles and T of the amino acid residues observed in the X-ray structures were determined and were correlated in a Ramachandran diagram.

Figure 6.5 illustrates this outlier map on the stars data. We see that star 9 is a vertical outlier because it only has an outlying residual. Observation 14 is a good leverage point it has an outlying surface temperature, but it still follows the linear...

The close proximity of the jS strand and of the helix enforced by the sharpness of the turn containing the G-X-S-X-G pentapeptide leads to a number of close contacts between amino acids from these two secondary structure elements (Fig. 12). It was this repetitive pattern of small and/or hydrophobic residues observed in amino acid sequences adjacent to the consensus pentapeptide that originally prompted De-rewenda and Derewenda (1991) to postulate that, in all lipases/esterases in which the G-X-S-X-G motif contains the nucleophile, the structure of this pentapeptide will be similar to that of RmL. If the standard regression assumptions are met, and the same number of replicates is taken at each x, value, the standardized, the Studentized, and jackknife residuals look the same. Outliers are often best identified by the jackknife residual, for it makes suspect data more obvious. For example, if the /th residual observation is extreme (hes outside the data pool), the, ) value will tend to be much smaller than which will make the r(, ) value larger in comparison to Sr the Studentized residual. Hence, the r(, ) value will stand out for detection.
