Regeol

The triterpenoid constituents, 3p,22(3-dihydroxyolean-12-en-29-oic acid (85), tingenone (86), tingenine B (87 22(3-hydroxytingenone), regeol A (88) and triptocalline A (89) isolated from Salacia chinensis L. (family Celastraceae), were examined on rat lens for aldose reductase inhibitory activity the test compounds 85-89 were evaluated to exhibit rat lens aldose reducatse inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 26,13, 7.0,30, and 14 /rM, respectively. ... [Pg.546]

T. wilfordii has been used as a traditional medicine in China for many centuries. The plant has also been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and spondylitis [92]. It has been reported that there is a strong relationship between the production of interleukin - 1 (IL-1) by the synovium and the degree of inflammation of the arthricular synovial membrane in rheumatoid artritis [93-95]. Regeol A (76), B (3) and C (77) [27], isolated from T. wilfordii var. regelii showed moderate to low inhibitory activity for IL-1 a and IL-lp release from lipopolysaccharide-stimulated human peripheral mononuclear cells compared to prednisolone as a reference compound. [Pg.689]

EBV-EA activation. Their inhibitory effects on the activation of the early antigen and the viabilities of Raj i cells (in parenthesis) are shown in Table 8. Regeol B (3) showed higher activity than regeol C (77). [Pg.301]

Celastrol, from Tripterygium wilfordii (Celastraceae), inhibited mouse IL-1 production in peritoneal macrophages, induced by lipopolysaccharide, and IL-2 production in splenic lymphocytes induced by concanavalin A [107]. This plant also furnished three novel triterpenes named regeol A, B and C, belonging to the D A-friedooleanane type and nine known triterpenes [42]. In rheumatoid arthritis, the degree of inflammation of the articular synovial membrane has to do with the production of IL-1. For this reason, the... [Pg.132]
