Recognition motif

Ubiquitin modification of substrates can be sensed by proteins, which serve as ubiquitin receptors. These proteins harbor domains capable of ubiquitin binding and help to translate the signal into the proper physiological response by forming signaling complexes or activating downstream effectors. So far more than 15 different ubiquitin recognition motifs have been identified. [Pg.1265]

Pseudorotaxanes are precursors of both rotaxanes and catenanes they consist of a guest molecule threaded through a macrocyclic host. Stoppering both ends of the threaded molecule gives a rotaxane, cycliza-tion of the thread gives a catenane. Pseudorotaxane formation may occur by spontaneous self-assembly, or may be template-controlled. Anion size can be of paramount importance for such templates - Cl- is effective, Br, I- less good, and PFe ineffective when the recognition motif demands a small template (454). [Pg.136]

Noncovalent interactions play a special role in synthetic procedures used to assemble various types of supramolecular species. These syntheses rely on the stabilization provided by non-covalent interactions between recognition sites incorporated within precursors. Various types of non-covalent interactions can be used as a recognition motif utilized to guide the synthesis.Targeted synthesis of macro- and supramolecular structures of various sizes, shapes, and functionality has now become possible. Supramolecular chemistry offers incredible applications in various fields such as medicinal chemistry (drug delivery systems),host-guest chemistry, catalysis, and molecular electronics. ... [Pg.152]
