A polyrotaxane with a dendrimer-like structure is known [60]. Based on the observation that [3-CD and sodium deoxycholate (NaDC) 54 forms a 2 1 host guest complex in water, Tato et al. constructed hyperbranched polyrotaxanes 55 by slowly reacting triply branched receptor 53 containing P-CD and NaDC... [Pg.133]

Wiener and co-workers used folic acid-conjugated Gd(DTPA)-PAMAM dendrimers for visualizing the high-affinity folate receptor, overexpressed in many tumors.201 The contrast agent accumulated in the cells, resulting in a remarkable contrast enhancement on 7)-weighted images. [Pg.876]

As stated, DC-SIGN is a key mannoside receptor for exogenous pathogens that is used by viruses for entry into the lymph nodes. The inhibition of this process has thus been sought as an interesting strategy for blocking viral adhesion. Consequently, a series of mannosylated Boltom dendrimers was prepared (see later section) that were rather efficient in this respect. [Pg.314]

Earlier we found that the addition of alkyl-modified poly(propylene imine) dendrimers to polypropylene leads to fibers which can be dyed in conventional acid or disperse dyeing processes [3]. The alkyl chains make the additive compatible with the polypropylene matrix, while the polar core of the dendrimer can act as a receptor for the dye molecules. This host-guest behavior is analogous to the principle of the dendritic box as described by Meijer et al. [30] and elaborated by Baars et al. for dye extraction processes [31]. [Pg.68]

Weiner et al. (173) showed that the uptake of a folate-conjugate dendrimer into tumor cells overexpressing high affinity Folate Receptor (hFR), occurs through this type of endocytotic pathway. [Pg.230]

Thus, our work suggests that, although other more complicated methods have also been put forward, the prediction that polyvalent interactions should be equal to monovalent interactions raised to the A th power, where N is the number of receptor-ligand interactions, is experimentally valid. Our mannose-/glucose-fiinctionalized dendrimer results suggest that the affinity of multivalent associations can be attenuated in predictable, reliable ways based on the monovalent affinities of the ligands (Wolfenden and Cloninger 2005, 2006). [Pg.345]

Schematic representations, like those shown in the Scheme 1, are very useful to indicate the chemical composition of the various species and to discuss the interaction between the various building blocks. Furthermore, as one can understand from the representations shown in Figures 9 and 10, the species with high nuclearity exhibit a ttu-ee-dimensional branching structure of the type of those shown by otherwise completely different dendrimers based on organic components. Therefore, endo- and exo-receptor properties can be expected, which are currently under investigation. Furthermore, aggregation of decanuclear complexes has also been demonstrated by dynamic light-scattering and conductivity experiments. Systematic studies on aggregation properties have, however, not been performed yet. The molecular recognition of anionic guest species by positively chaiged or neutral receptors is a relatively new area of research of growing interest in view of the key roles that these anions play in biochemical and chemical processes. For this reason, as part of the electrochemical studies, we decided to examine the use of the redox-active ferrocenyl dendrimers 3 and 4 that contain multiple N-H linkages capable of participating in H-bonding, as well as characteristic internal cavities,... [Pg.167]
