Receiving inspections basic

Basic receiving inspections check for adherence to specifications only. They are not intended to look for quality levels beyond which the materials are normally built. For example, no oxidizable grease in a chlorine or oxygen service valve would add an additional requirement over and above basic, making it a supplementary receiving inspection. [Pg.8]

Carriers that are a single inspection away from having enough inspections to receive a BASIC score. These carriers are presently rated as Insufficient Data or Inconclusive in these BASICs in the SMS. [Pg.95]

Receiving Inspection. Many types of tests have been devised for testing raw materials. Depending upon the severity of the need for inspection, the types of tests selected may vary from being basic and simple to sophisticated and complex. Some of the most common basic tests are the melt index test, specific gravity, bulk density, spiral flow test, and viscosity tests. Gel permeation chromatography, infrared analysis, thermal analysis, and rheometry are some of the more elaborate raw material quality control tests. These tests are discussed in detail in Chapter 7. Some processors also choose to mold test bars from a small sample of raw material and conduct physical tests such as tensile, impact, and flexural tests and then evaluate the results to see if they meet the preestablished specifications. [Pg.444]

Suppose we concentrate for a moment on residue analyses. SOPs are basic to your operation, to every facet of your operation. You did not do the field work or the sampling but you assume these were done properly. You assume responsibility for the samples that arrive on your doorstep. In this work, chain of custody is critical. Who receives a box of samples, who logs it in and how, who opens and inspects the contents, who decides if the storage was correct How are the sample numbers logged in, how is the container stored until the samples are ready for analysis, who assumes custody of each sample and when Residue analyses are far more than grabbing a sample from the freezer, homogenizing it in isooctane and shoving it into a GC. The basic approach of the agri-environmental programmes is that farmers enter a voluntary contract with a governmental agency. The farmers commit themselves to specific farming practices that are perceived to be beneficial to the environment and receive a certain amount of money in return. The key point to understand is this If the carrier should receive another inspection or a violation in the BASIC in the next month (in other words, the carriers data becomes sufficient), the next SMS calcffiations woffid then calcffiate a BASIC Score using all relevant inspections and violations from the last 2 years. The most popular ultrasonic nondestructive testing application has been associated with thickness measurement of a test object and defect location within the particular test object. Most of the applications to date have been associated with the testing of homogeneous isotropic materials. Recent work has extended the basic ultrasonic test philosophy to the field of composite materials and adhesive bonding inspection. Unfortunately, many difficulties occur because of the inhomogeneous and anisotropic characteristic of a composite material. This section includes a review of the physical principles associated with ultrasonic testing and the particular items that must receive special attention when inspecting composite materials or adhesively bonded sections of a structure. [Pg.432]

The applicable standards are selected at the basic design stage so as to permeate detailed design and procurement. By the time construction is at hand, the requirements of the selected standards are already embedded in the documents received on-site approved for construction. Any occurrence in this BASIC during a roadside inspection will be factored into an organization s Carrier Safety Measiuement System (CSMS) score for 2 years, even if the driver leaves their employment. The driver will have the traffic offense follow him or her for 3 years in his or her Driver s Safety Measurement System (DSMS) score. However, it is important to note that these violations will not be factored into the driver s next employer s CSMS. It stays in the CSMS score of the carrier that received the roadside inspection report. Violations discovered during an intervention (i.e., investigation) that fit within the confines of this BASIC will appear in that BASIC s tab in the CSMS. [Pg.296]

Carrier Safety Measurement System (CSMS) is a subset of the Safety Measurement System (SMS). Carriers will receive scores for each Behavior Analysis Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs) within the SMS that takes into account the last two years of roadside inspection history and crashes. The results are available to carriers, drivers, or the public. [Pg.711]
