Marquis reagent (gives a purple-red coloration, then violet, then blue with morphine, codeine, dionine, and heroine) mix 3 mL of concentrated H2SO4 with 3 drops of a 35% formaldehyde solution. [Pg.1192]

The reaction mechanism has not been elucidated. It is possible that formaldehyde reacts by oxidation as in the Marquis reaction (see formaldehyde — sulfuric acid reagent), whereby colored salts are formed with naphthoquinone sulfonic acid. [Pg.352]

Color reactions are more or less clearly defined reactions of the substances with suitable reagents. Substance-specific reactions are not usually available, e. g. many compounds with aromatic skeletons give both a positive Vitali-Morin reaction [1 -4] and a positive Marquis reaction [4]. Again, numerous aldehydes react with electron-rich compounds in acidic medium to yield colored substances (cf. Chapters 2 and 3.1). [Pg.36]

Fomaldehyde (Marquis [ii] and Prochazka reagent), furfural, 4-methoxybenzalde-hyde, 4-(dimethylamino)-cinnamaldehyde and 4-(dimethylamino)-benzaldehyde (Ehrlich s, Van Urk s, Morgan-Elson or EP reagents) react according to this scheme with... [Pg.39]

Test 3 Marquis Test Mix 1 volume of formaldehyde solution with 9 volumes of sulfuric acid. Add a drop of the reagent to the primaquine phosphate sample on a white tile an orange color is produced [2]. [Pg.175]

The Marquis reagent testing kit can be used to test if a pill contains ecstasy or PMA. Fact—The kit produces a dark blue-purple color in the presence of ecstasy and no color change in response to PMA. However some pills containing PMA also contain ecstasy, so a positive result for ecstasy does not mean the pill is free of PMA. [Pg.420]

Marquis Test Prepare the reagent by mixing 1 volume of formaldehyde with 9 volumes of sulfuric acid. When dipyridamole is reacted with this reagent, the resulting solution has an orange color. [Pg.250]

Marquis Test (p. 139). Many basic drugs produce colours with diis reagent. It is a good test for opiates, stimulants, antihistamines, and pheno-thiazines. [Pg.52]

Method 1. Place a portion of the sample in each of two ignition tubes and to one tube add some solid sodium hydroxide. Heat both tubes carefully, allow water vapour to escape, insert into the vapours in each tube an open capillary tube containing Marquis reagent, and observe the colour of the reagent. [Pg.130]

Note. This reagent is not the same as that used in the Marquis Test. [Pg.134]

Marquis reagent. This reagent is preferably poured on to the plate because of the danger of spraying concentrated acid. Black or violet spots are given by alkaloids related to morphine. Many different colours are given with a variety of drugs (see under Colour Tests, p. 139). [Pg.168]
