Photosensitization reaction

Ora/-Adverse reactions requiring discontinuation include Pulmonary infiltrates or fibrosis paroxysmal ventricular tachycardia CHF elevation of liver enzymes visual disturbances solar dermatitis blue discoloration of skin hyperthyroidism hypothyroidism. Adverse reactions occurring in at least 3% of patients include CFIF Gl complaints (nausea, vomiting, constipation, anorexia) dermatologic reactions (photosensitivity, solar dermatitis) neurologic problems (malaise, fatigue, tremor/abnormal involuntary movements, lack of coordination, abnormal gait/ataxia, dizziness, paresthesias) abnormal liver function tests. 

Fluorouracil is a pyrimidine analogue (see Chapter 27, Section II.b.3). Topical application may be used for malignant and premalignant skin conditions, including actinic keratosis. Adverse effects include local inflammatory and allergic reactions. Photosensitivity reactions during and for up to 2 months after treatment may become manifest.

Since the surface properties of the colloid have a strong influence on the photoreduction kinetics, it seemed interesting to elucidate the effect of the added surface-active substances on the kinetic regularities of the reactions photosensitized by semiconductor colloid. The surfactant molecules are known to concentrate near the surface of the colloidal particle, so they may affect strongly the kinetics of photocatalytic reactions proceeding at the particles surface [52,53]. Fig. 2.30 presents the temperature dependencies of the initial rate of the MV photoreduction over colloidal CdS prepared at the excess of the sulfide ions. Type C comprises a large number of dye-photosensitized reactions and usually involves a radiationless transition from the excited singlet to a triplet state prior to free radical formation in subsequent reactions. They are not discussed in detail here, although the similarity of the dye-photosensitized reaction with the reactions photosensitized by uranyl ion is noteworthy. Attention must also be drawn to Simons excellent review 18) of reactions of electronically excited molecules in solution, in which photochemical reactions of type C, including those involving energy transfer, are dealt with thoroughly. 

Rashes are common in allergic reactions. Photosensitivity induced by quinine has been reported some of the cases occurred in elderly persons taking quinine for night cramps (28). Another form of hypersensitivity to quinine is cutaneous neutrophilic vasculitis, which is a form of photosensitivity (SEDA-16, 305). Local pigmentation has been described after intramuscular injection (SEDA-13, 815).
