The reactions of various dipeptides with glyoxal at 100° and pH 5 have been studied and, besides other products, gave a series of new l-(l proposed mechanism involved an intermediate of type (109) in the formation of the pyrazine. Pyrazines prepared from dipeptides in this manner are listed in Table 11.12 (380, 381). The study has been extended to tri- and tetrapeptides (382). Some additional data are recorded in Section VI.9A(1). [Pg.52]

There are several families of compounds that display photochromic behaviour involving various mechanisms. The following list of reactions reviews the most common systems (Scheme 6.160). Spiropyrans, spirooxazines, chromenes and fulgides undergo concerted or non-concerted electrocyclization reactions (Section 6.1.2 see also Case Study 6.4), azobenzenes involve E Z isomerization (this section),624 1093"1101 quinones... [Pg.346]

The nitrogen adsorption states were studied by various instruments and spectroscopy techniques. Table 2.1 lists some infrared spectroscopy data of nitrogen adsorption. The adsorbed species observed at room temperature could be desorbed at high temperatures, which is short-lifetime intermediate species in ammonia synthesis. As mentioned above, if nitrogen must be dissociated before reaction with hydrogen, in reaction mechanism, the main adsorbed species N (a) is more important than the species N2 (a). However, N2 (a) also can give important information, i.e., how N2 is activated and converted to dissociated adsorbed species N (a). [Pg.94]

Table 4.7 shows a summary of atom-plus-molecule recombination reactions whose kinetics have been studied in discharge-flow systems the list is not exhaustive only selected data are tabulated. Since these recombination reactions are first-order in [A], only relative concentrations need be measured in order to obtain values for the rate constants. This fact, and the elimination of concurrent atom recombination processes by use of the fixed observation point method, account for the relatively large number of detailed rate studies in the literature. The superficially simple atom + O2 reactions are, for various reasons, more complex than the atom -)- NO reactions. The three reactions H -H NO -f M, O -j- NO -1- M and Cl -1- NO + M possess the following simple mechanism in the 1 torr total pressure region... [Pg.301]

Simply by measuring the rate of reaction in HOH and DOD reveals almost nothing about the mechanism, but measuring the rate as a function of the mole fraction of DOD in isotopic mixtures of various composition can be much more informative. Thus, kinetic studies of solvent isotope effects in a series of HOH and DOD can, in some cases, allow the dissection of the isotope effect into its component contributions from different sites in the reactant and transition states. In this way, one can constmct a list ofthe contributing hydrogenic or protonic sites and the magnitude of the isotope effect for each this is called a proton inventory. [Pg.386]
