Re formation

The second set of experiments was carried out in 1929 by Paneth. The decomposition of tetramethyllead was carried out in such a way that the decomposition products were carried by a flow of inert gas over a film of lead metal. The lead was observed to disappear with re-formation of tetramethyllead. The conclusion was reached that methyl radicals must exist long enough in the gas phase to be transported from the point of decomposition to the lead film, where they were reconverted to tetramethyllead. [Pg.664]

If the union occurs in such a position that loss of hydrogen with re-formation of a true aromatic nucleus is feasible, an aporphine base will result. [Pg.818]

The platinum microelectrode appears to act as a potentiostat and maintains the potential of the Pb-solution interface at a crack at a value that favours the re-formation of PbOj, rather than the continuous formation of PbClj which would otherwise result in excessive corrosion. [Pg.183]

Potential-time relationships have been widely used for studying film formation and film breakdown, as indicated by an increase or decrease in the corrosion potential, respectively. May studied the corrosion of 70/30 brass and aluminium brass in sea-water and showed how scratching the surface resulted in a sudden fall in potential to a more negative value followed by a rapid rise due to re-formation of the film conversely, the pitting of stainless steel in chemical plant may be detected by a sudden decrease in potential... [Pg.1011]

Bent discusses how the sulphur melts to form a fluid liquid, which then becomes quite viscous before being poured into cold water we imagine the breaking of Ss rings, polymerisation of small chains and then quenching of the polymeric chains without re-formation of Ss rings for some time. [Pg.13]

In the case of Prl2-I, starting from the structure of ProPril2 ( pure CdCl2-type structure) the re-formation of 4" nets for both praseodymium and iodine. [Pg.57]

Finally, the binding of specific transcription factors to cognate DNA elements may result in disruption of nucleosomal structure. Many eukaryotic genes have multiple protein-binding DNA elements. The serial binding of transcription factors to these elements—in a combinatorial fashion—may either directly disrupt the structure of the nucleosome or prevent its re-formation or recruit, via protein-protein interactions, multiprotein coactivator complexes that have the ability to covalently modify or remodel nucleosomes. These reactions result in chromatin-level structural changes that in the end increase DNA accessibifity to other factors and the transcription machinery. [Pg.383]

In the anodic scan, the oxidation of the H adlayer formed below 0.1 V and the re-formation of OHad/Oad (both in peak A) are shifted to markedly higher potentials compared with the Oad/OHad removal and Hupd formation (peak A ) in the cathodic scan (Fig. 14.2b). Furthermore, it overlaps with the peak B (OHad oxidation) observed for a cathodic scan limit of 0.1 V. At low scan rates, peak A starts at 0.1-0.15 V and reaches up to 0.48 V. Hence, compared with a scan with a cathodic limit of > 0.1 V, the equilibration of the Oad/OHad adlayer is shifted from 0.28 to 0.48 V. The charge in peak A integrated in the range 0.1-0.48 V corresponds to 1.5 e per surface atom, which is equal to the sum of the charges in peaks B and A in the negative-going scan. [Pg.472]

Re-formation of water must be considered somewhat arbitrarily. However, these models have been generally useful in delineating LET and scavenger effects on the total molecular yield. [Pg.209]

In order to investigate the competition between magnetic interaction and spin transition in (bpym, S), quenching experiments have been performed at 0.63 GPa. Fig. 7 displays the magnetic behaviour of the quenched sample at increasing temperatures. It can be inferred from the thermal dependence of XmT that [HS-HS] entities can be frozen-in as a metastable state at low temperatures. Heating the sample above ca. 60 K leads to re-formation of... [Pg.191]

The active compound within the bacillary layer is retinal. To simplify the photo-physics within the rods and cones hugely, absorption of a photon initiates a series of conformational changes that lead ultimately to photo-isomerization of retinal from the 11-cis isomer to the 11-trans isomer see Figure 9.20. The uncoiling of the molecule following photo-excitation triggers a neural impulse, which is detected and deconvoluted by the brain. The photochemical reaction is breakage and, after rotation, re-formation of the C=C bond. [Pg.459]

The title of this review means literally the rate-constant of the process by which the molecule of an alkene becomes attached to a carbenium ion at the end of a polymer chain with the re-formation of an identical ion. The simplest representation of this process is Equation (1) ... [Pg.508]

The addition of aniline to phenyl isothiocyanate which leads to the re-formation of diphenylthiourea is described in the succeeding paragraph. [Pg.170]

With concentrated mineral acids azobenzene gives red salts, as may be shown by pouring hydrochloric acid on it. Addition of hydrogen leads to the re-formation of the hydrazo-compound. Oxygen is added on and the azoxy-compound formed by the action of hydrogen peroxide or nitric acid. The synthesis of asymmetrical aromatic azo-compounds from nitroso-compounds and primary amines was discussed above. [Pg.185]

The fate of the glutamate is re-formation of oxoglntarate in the deamination reaction catalysed by glntamate dehydrogenase, in which the NH2 gronp in glntamate is removed as ammonia and the oxoglntarate is formed, as follows ... [Pg.164]

It is possible that microbubble shell may be shattered during the interaction with an ultrasound pulse. Indeed, drastic variation of microbubble size, up to several-fold in less than a microsecond, has been reported [33], with linear speeds of the wall motion of microbubble approaching hundreds of meters per second in certain conditions. At these rates, it is easy to shatter the materials that would otherwise flow under slow deformation conditions. In some cases (e.g., lipid monolayer shells, which are held together solely by the hydrophobic interaction of the adjacent molecules), after such shattering the re-formation of the shell maybe possible in other cases - e.g., with a solid crosslinked polymer or a denatured protein shells - the detached iceberg-like pieces of the microbubble shell coat would probably not re-form and anneal, and the acoustic response of microbubbles to the subsequent ultrasound pulses would be different [34]. [Pg.84]

Re(NRe03Me)Cl(PPh3)(Co( 7 -C5H5) PO(OEt)2 3)] in moderate yields. The compound is unstable and decomposes in solution with re-formation of the starting materials. [Pg.324]
