Fabrication. Acetal resins are most commonly fabricated by injection mol ding. A homogeneous melt is essential for optimum appearance and for performance of injection molded parts. A screw compression ratio of no less than 3 1 is advised and the size of the injection molded shot should be 50 to 75% of the rated capacity (based on polystyrene) of the barrel. [Pg.58]

The choice of variables remaining with the operator, as stated before, is restricted and is usually confined to the selection of the phase system. Preliminary experiments must be carried out to identify the best phase system to be used for the particular analysis under consideration. The best phase system will be that which provides the greatest separation ratio for the critical pair of solutes and, at the same time, ensures a minimum value for the capacity factor of the last eluted solute. Unfortunately, at this time, theories that predict the optimum solvent system that will effect a particular separation are largely empirical and those that are available can be very approximate, to say the least. Nevertheless, there are commercially available experimental routines that help in the selection of the best phase system for LC analyses, the results from which can be evaluated by supporting computer software. The program may then suggest further routines based on the initial results and, by an iterative procedure, eventually provides an optimum phase system as defined by the computer software. [Pg.364]

Aluminum-deficient Y zeolites prepared by partial removal of aluminum with a chelating agent (e.g. EDTA) also show improved thermal and hydrothermal stability compared to the parent zeolite. The optimum stability was found in the range of 25 to 50 percent of framework A1 extraction (8). However, the maximum degree of dealumination is also affected by the SiO /Al O ratio in the parent zeolite a higher ratio appears to allow more advanced dealumination without loss of crystallinity (8,25,45). Above 50 or 60 percent dealumination, significant loss of crystallinity was observed. Many factors act together to determine the optimum scale of a process. These include the demand for the product, competitors share of the market, any technical limitations on the size of operation and also economies of scale effects. There is an approximate logarithmic relationship between the unit production costs for a product and the volume of production, whereby considerable economies of scale can be achieved. If the costs of a process of one size (C ) is known then the costs of larger or smaller factories (C ) can be approximately obtained from the relationship C = Cx (or n° ), where n is the scale-up ratio, i.e. n=l for a plant that is twice as big. Alternatively, a graph of log capital costs vs. log of plant capacity gives a straight line with a slope equal to the scale-up factor (n). Whether the optimum phase system is arrived at by a computer system, or by trial and error experiments (which are often carried out, even after computer optimization), the basic chromatographic data needed in column design will be identified. An important thermodynamic parameter in cooling tower calculations is the ratio of the thermal capacity of the water stream to that of the sir stream. This parameter is referred to as, the tower capacity factor. It is shown that when air or water efficiency, are plotted against the capacity factor test points for a given tower are found to lie on a single smooth curve. The correlation is obtained, irrespective of whether the equipment is used as a water cooler or air cooler, and irrespective of the temperature levels, temperature ranges and barometric pressures.
