Rate of weight gain

The other method is the ASTM cup method (34). In this method a desiccant is placed in a waterproof dish. The dish is covered with the experimental film and placed in an environmental chamber. The temperature and humidity ate set for the conditions of interest, typically 37.8 °C and 90% th. At regular intervals, the dish is removed and weighed. After a few days enough data have been gathered to describe a steady-state rate of weight gain, and the WVTR can be calculated. Typical experiments take about a week to complete. [Pg.500]

Corrosion rates have been given as rates of weight gain because they are the basis of most measurements. Penetrations calculated from the results are dependent upon the relative amounts of diflerent products, and hence require information on the relative abundance of products, which is generally not known quantitatively and can depend upon experimental conditions such as temperature. [Pg.906]

Older children with galactosemia often benefit markedly from a low-galactose diet. Their rate of weight gain increases sharply as soon as they are put on the diet, even those who seemed little affected by their galactosemia (D9). [Pg.69]

Monensin was tested in a rumen fermentation assay at the Lilly Laboratories, and it was found to produce the desired shift in the fermentation (9). Monensin has been licensed in the U.S. for use in beef cattle for improved feed efficiency, where it is administered at 5 to 30 g/ton in a complete feed. In this application, the rate of growth is not increased, but the cattle consume about 10% less food. It is also licensed for increased rate of weight gain in cattle weighing more than 400 lb. and on pasture, where it is fed in a supplement at a rate of 50 to 200 mg per head per day. Lasalocid and salinomycin have also been licensed for use in cattle. [Pg.67]

Other Systemic Effects. The most common systemic effect observed following inhalation exposure to 2-hexanone is weight loss or a decreased rate of weight gain in developing animals. [Pg.20]

In animal studies involving 3-6 months of inhalation exposure to 2-hexanone, both weight loss and decreased rates of weight gain in developing animals were noted. [Pg.21]

A 9-year-old boy with autism and overactivity was unresponsive to several drugs. Risperidone 0.5 mg bd was effective, reducing his Aberrant Behavior Checklist score from 103 to 57 by the end of the first week. Four weeks later his weight had risen from 34.6 to 37 kg. This rate of weight gain (0.6 kg/week) continued over the next 12 weeks. His weight was then contained by the use of the Zone diet, with an emphasis on slowly absorbed carbohydrates (examples include apples,... [Pg.645]
