Other. Insoluble alkaline-earth metal and heavy metal stannates are prepared by the metathetic reaction of a soluble salt of the metal with a soluble alkah—metal stannate. They are used as additives to ceramic dielectric bodies (32). The use of bismuth stannate [12777-45-6] Bi2(Sn02)3 5H20, with barium titanate produces a ceramic capacitor body of uniform dielectric constant over a substantial temperature range (33). Ceramic and dielectric properties of individual stannates are given in Reference 34. The bubble size in these cells tends to be the smallest (10 to 50 Im) as compared to the dissolved-air and dispersed-air flotation systems. The name dust , is used in a variety of ways, and with different meanings. These range from the material that accumulates on the earth s surface, such as on streets and in living and working environments, to the particulate material suspended in the atmosphere. In this paper I wish to consider these two materials in terms of their chemical composition, sources and relationship between them. The names used for the two materials will be surface dust and atmospheric dust . The word aerosol may also be used for atmospheric dust but it more properly applies to the finer particles of atmospheric dust and includes liquid aerosol (i). Botfi surface and atmospheric dusts are increasingly seen to be a hazard to human beings as they are a source of intake of toxic materials such as heavy metals. Waste water rules have pH limits, a common range being between 6 and 10. There are also limits for fats and oils, solvents, heavy metals, and a variety of other compounds and ions. The fact that a compound with possible toxic or otherwise undesirable properties is not on the list does not mean it is permissible. Such a matter should be discussed with the proper authorities.
