The objective of a radiation scan is to pinpoint the particular tray that is initiating flooding. This tray acts as a pinch point in the column. That is, the trays above the tray which is flooding will also flood (but to a somewhat lesser extent). The trays below the pinch point tray will not be particularly affected. 

The structures of solids are analysed by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique at room temperature with a Bruker dif actometer using Cu-Ka radiation scanning 20 angles ranging from 10 to 80°. 

Characterization. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) was done on a Scintag PAD-V instrument using Cu K radiation. Scans were collected at either 0.5 or 1.0 2e/min. Oriented films were made by air-drying clay slurries from water on glass slides. Data was collected on a DG Desktop computer system.
