Radiant cooling

Radiant cooling The cooling of a human body or other surface by means of a radiant panel. [Pg.1470]

The final choice that we will consider is that of syngas cooling. Here one can select between water quench, gas quench, and radiant cooling together with or without a convective cooler. GE, for instance, offer a choice between a full water quench and (for coal gasification) a radiant cooler. [Pg.207]

The GE coal gasifier was developed out of the design for liquid and gaseous feed, which exhibits the same main characteristics except the radiant cooling feature of the coal gasifier. [Pg.208]

The next step in producing pure potassium was to separate the sodium-potassium alloy into its components by fractional distillation at atmospheric pressure. Sodium-potassium alloy was fed into the center of the column, where potassium was taken off overhead at 1400 °F. and sodium collected in the 1650 °F. still pot. Adequate reflux was obtained simply by adjusting the heights of the insulation on the column to change the amount of radiant cooling. Vapor-liquid equilibria for mixtures of alkali metals have been reported (5). [Pg.171]

Occupant location. If occupants are located immediately adjacent to an outside wall or window, they may be subject to cold air leakage or to radiant cooling or heating from the walls. [Pg.504]

The laws of heat transfer govern the rate at which heat can be dissipated. Total heat loss equals the sum of losses due to thermal conduction, thermal convection and thermal radiation. Given that electronics operate at temperatures well below 500HC, the losses due to radiant cooling can be assumed to be negligible. The remaining components can be expressed mathematically as... [Pg.2667]

The steam generator is a balanced draft, controlled circulation, multichamber unit which incorporates NO control and final burnout of the fuel-rich MHD combustion gases. The MHD generator exhaust is cooled in a primary radiant chamber from about 2310 to 1860 K in two seconds, and secondary air for afterburning and final oxidation of the gas is introduced in the secondary chamber where seed also condenses. Subsequent to afterburning and after the gas has been cooled down sufftciendy to soHdify condensed seed in the gas, the gas passes through the remaining convective sections of the heat recovery system. [Pg.425]

ISO EN 7730 standardizes the PMV-PPD index as the method for evaluation of moderate thermal environments. To quantify the degree of comfort, the PMV (predicted mean vote) index gives a value on a 7-point thermal sensation scale -t-3 hot, +2 warm, +1 slightly warm, 0 neutral, -I slightly cool, -2 cool, -3 cold. An equation in the standard calculates the PMV index based on the six factors (clothing, activity, air and mean radiant temperatures, air speed, and humidity). [Pg.376]

When a boiler design employs a radiant superheater, it is located within the furnace section. Also within the furnace section are the water-cooled, membrane walls (water-wall tubes), risers, headers, and... [Pg.43]

The value of the coefficient will depend on the mechanism by which heat is transferred, on the fluid dynamics of both the heated and the cooled fluids, on the properties of the materials through which the heat must pass, and on the geometry of the fluid paths. In solids, heat is normally transferred by conduction some materials such as metals have a high thermal conductivity, whilst others such as ceramics have a low conductivity. Transparent solids like glass also transmit radiant energy particularly in the visible part of the spectrum. [Pg.382]
