In the case of nitrous acid plants, application of integrally geared process gas radial turbines and compressors are used in plants with capacities ranging from 120-600 t/day and higher. For air compression, up to three compressor stages are connected in series. Turbo compressors can be of the radial or the axial type. They differ from each other in the direction by which the compressed gas leaves the impeller. If the amount of process air is below about 400 000 m h , radial turbo compressors are preferably applied in two particular designs, i.e. the integrally geared turbo compressor and the single-shaft compressor with integrated cooling devices. Their development has decisively pushed the evolution of industrial air separation. The specific thermodynamic and mechanical properties of these compressors will be introduced in the following. [Pg.45]

Packages exist that use various discretizations in the spatial direction and an integration routine in the time variable. PDECOL uses B-sphnes for the spatial direction and various GEAR methods in time (Ref. 247). PDEPACK and DSS (Ref. 247) use finite differences in the spatial direction and GEARB in time (Ref. 66).
