Classifying variables into fast or slow is a typical approach in chemical kinetics to apply the method of (quasi)stationary concentrations, which allows the initial set of differential equations to be largely reduced. In the chemically reactive systems near thermodynamic equihbrium, this means that the subsystem of the intermediates reaches (owing to quickly changing variables) the stationary state with the minimal rate of entropy production (the Rayleigh Onsager functional). In other words, the subsys tern of the intermediates becomes here a subsystem of internal variables. 

Shortly afterwards, we came up with our own chelating bisphosphane ligand, by dimerizing PAMP through another Mislow procedure. We called it DIPAMP, and chirality resided on the phosphorus atom. DIPAMP worked at about 95% ee in our L-dopa system and we quickly converted our commercial process to be able to use it. Part of our motivation to make a quick change was that DIPAMP was easier to make than CAMP, and, in addition, it was a nice, crystalline air-stable solid (Fig. 7).

The slitter used in this configuration may be a hub-type unit similar to the one that was described earlier. However, some systems use a traditional packed arbor head (Fig. 13). A packed arbor slitter uses spacers and shims to accurately locate and maintain the desired spacing between the knives. Packing the arbors is time-consuming and labor-intensive. To minimize loss of time between jobs, some systems will use quick-change slitter modules. The modules are set up offline. When the new head is required, it can be quickly exchanged with the module used in the previous job. 

The project was not implemented correctly. Not all tooling on the press was standardized for quick die change, and many dies were not ready to be used with the quick die change system when installed. The end result was that the quick die change hardware was damaged when nonquick-changed dies were run on that press.
