Light scattering quasielastic

In a seminal and seemingly forgotten paper, Burchard et al. " discussed the analysis of various polymer architectures based on integrated light scattering (LS) and quasielastic light scattering (QELS). They considered mono- and polydisperse linear and star-branched polymers with/number of arms ( rays ), and random polycondensates of Af or ABC type (identical or different... [Pg.205]

With the development of new instrumental techniques, much new information on the size and shape of aqueous micelles has become available. The inceptive description of the micelle as a spherical agglomerate of 20-100 monomers, 12-30 in radius (JJ, with a liquid hydrocarbon interior, has been considerably refined in recent years by spectroscopic (e.g. nmr, fluorescence decay, quasielastic light-scattering), hydrodynamic (e.g. viscometry, centrifugation) and classical light-scattering and osmometry studies. From these investigations have developed plausible descriptions of the thermodynamic and kinetic states of micellar micro-environments, as well as an appreciation of the plurality of micelle size and shape. [Pg.225]

Dynamic surface tension has also been measured by quasielastic light scattering (QELS) from interfacial capillary waves [30]. It was shown that QELS gives the same result for the surface tension as the traditional Wilhelmy plate method down to the molecular area of 70 A. QELS has recently utilized in the study of adsorption dynamics of phospholipids on water-1,2-DCE, water-nitrobenzene and water-tetrachloromethane interfaces [31]. This technique is still in its infancy in liquid-liquid systems and its true power is to be shown in the near future. [Pg.539]

Another example is the determination of the interaction of D-propranolol with LUVs of DMPC by FT-IR and quasielastic light scattering (QLS) [62]. The results of the two complementary techniques showed that cationic D-propranolol interacts with DMPC. The FT-IR spectra indicate that the drug is localized at the aqueous interface of the bilayer. Figure 3.15 shows the temperature dependence of the wavenumber of the symmetric CH2 stretching mode of DMPC LUV in the absence and presence of... [Pg.77]

A series of monodisperse PMMA latexes was synthesized and characterized with respect to refractive index, percent solids, and solution density. The particle size of each latex was analyzed by several different instrumental methods. The methods used include DCP, SFFF, HDC, Quasielastic Light Scattering (QELS), TEM, and turbidity. [Pg.232]

Although NMR results provide perhaps the most convincing evidence of the bicontinuous structure of some microemulsions, many other techniques support their existence. Freeze-fracture TEM combined with nuclear magnetic resonance and quasielastic light scattering was used to study the microstructure of surfactant-water systems and dynamics of o/w and bicontinuous ME systems [41], The authors reported a rather abrupt transition from a discontinuous droplet (o/w) to bicontinuous (oil-and-water) microstructure occurring at low surfactant concentration, close to a three-phase region in the constructed phase diagram of pentaethylene glycol dodecyl ether, water, and octane [41],... [Pg.777]
