Quartz filled

On the basis of the above data obtained with the empty reactor and of the results of other series of experiments performed with differently sized empty and SiC or quartz filled reactors as well as with an empty stainless-steel reactor, we observe that the contribution of the gas-phase reaction in the T range investigated is absolutely negligible. 

Methane conversion was performed in a conventional fixed-bed continuous flow reactor operated under atmospheric pressure. The reactor consisted of a quartz, U type tube of 9 mm internal diameter. The amount of catalyst used for a test run was about 0.25 g, which was held in place by quartz wool plugs. The reactor was placed in an electric furnace with approximately 20 cm of the quartz-filled tube serving as a preheater. Before the reaction the catalysts were pretreated in an oxygen flow at 1048 K for 1 h. The reactant mixture of CH4 and 5% O2 in He was adjusted to meet several CH4/O2 ratios and a total flow rate of about 1.2 dm /h, keeping constant the oxygen...

The second, obvious application is studying polvmer-filler interactions in filled and reinforced composites. Some data are presented for wollastonite and quartz filled Bisphenol-A based and cycloaliphatic epoxies [6]. These data show, that Tg shifts observed by different relaxation methods (dielectric spectroscopy, DSC, thermomechanical measurements) are not necessarily the same (Table 1.), they depend on the effective frequency, changes in activation energy have also to be taken into account. Correlations between Tg shift and polymer adsorption can be understood using Lipatov s theory [7]. Positive Tg shift usually indicates strong adhesion, while negative Tg shift can be explained by the fact that the adsorbed polymer layer forms a looser structure than that of the bulk material. Blank runs using a quartz-filled reactor allowed to verify that there was no significant contribution of thermal cracking reactions to the various products. Hence, both hydrogen and methane have a catalytic origin in these experiments.

The measured and calculated properties for the model composites are summarized in Tables IV and V. For these composites, the coefficients of friction ranged from 0.3 to 0.9. The quartz filled system exhibited the highest values.
