Quadrature schemes

Here, the grid contains P points, which are located at positions rp and the Wp represent the weights in the numerical quadrature scheme. We will encounter a more detailed... [Pg.119]

Solutions for Volterra equations are done in a similar fashion, except that the solution can proceed point by point, or in small groups of points depending on the quadrature scheme. See Linz, P., Analytical and Numerical Methods for Volterra Equations, SIAM, Philadelphia (1985). There are methods that are analogous to the usual methods for... [Pg.54]

Let us briefly discuss the relationship between approaches which use basis sets and thus have a discrete single-particle spectrum and those which employ the Hartree-Fock hamiltonian, which has a continuous spectrum, directly. Consider an atom enclosed in a box of radius R, much greater than the atomic dimension. This replaces the continuous spectrum by a set of closely spaced discrete levels. The relationship between the matrix Hartree-Fock problem, which arises when basis sets of discrete functions are utilized, and the Hartree-Fock problem can be seen by letting the dimensions of the box increase to infinity. Calculations which use discrete basis sets are thus capable, in principle, of yielding exact expectation values of the hamiltonian and other operators. In using a discrete basis set, we replace integrals over the continuum which arise in the evaluation of expectation values by summations. The use of a discrete basis set may thus be regarded as a quadrature scheme. [Pg.16]

R) iv(R) il- (R)>, can also be evaluated accurately by using the well-known transformation theory and quadrature scheme Introduced by Harris, Engerholm, and Gwlnn (HEG) (12). [Pg.266]

In the general quadrature scheme one requires two signals to be digitised that differ in phase by 90° but which are otherwise identical. The digitised data from each is then stored in two separate memory blocks, here designated 1 and... [Pg.63]

As mentioned in the last section, the XC integrals are in practice evaluated numerically, because of the complicated algebraic forms used for the approximate XC functionals. As with fitting procedures, there have been a great many quadrature schemes which have been proposed and are in use. The areas in which advances are needed in order to treat the quadrature properly may be succinctly categorized as standardization, orientation and differentiation. [Pg.179]

The procedure described above was implemented in the WardTordai program. The first-order quadrature scheme was found to be accurate enough, see [7]. [Pg.638]

For the numerical evaluation of expectation values, numerical quadrature schemes are needed. In the case of atoms (see chapter 9), these are onedimensional and, hence, particularly simple. As an example, we discuss Simpson s rule in the following. [Pg.665]
