A poly(tribromostyrene) with the bromine atoms attached to the benzene ring is marketed by the Ferro corporation as Pyro-Chek 68 PB as a heat-resisting fire retardant used in conjunction with antimony oxide. The polymer has an exceptionally high specific gravity, reputedly of 2.8, and a softening point of 220°C. [Pg.452]

Responding to the need for thinner, smaller components in the electronics industry, Ferro Corp had developed an advanced brominated polystyrene flame retardant under their Pyro-chek name for high temperature glass-filled engineering polymers. Pyro-Chek 68Pbi is said to offer improved thermal stability and colour for high temperature applications. [Pg.32]

Pyro-Chek 68Pbi was developed for use in high-temperature polyamide and polyamide-polyester alloys, but can also be utilised for faster compounding of PA66 in larger, hotter running, extruders. The material is available in powder and compacted form. [Pg.32]

Ferro Corporation sold its Pyro-Chek named products business, made in both the US near Chicago, and France, to Albemarle Corporation at the beginning of 2000, along with the French plant. Investment in the French unit, at Port-du-Bouc, by Ferro ensured that new developments in the brominated polyst5rene FR family were completed and the new owners also benefit from the additional enviromnental improvements to achieve reduced atmospheric emissions during manufacture. [Pg.87]

Pyro-Chek 68PB flame retardant additive is a brominated polystyrene polymer, and is therefore both thermoplastic and polymeric in nature. It is unique in that this polymeric additive will fuse at higher compounding temperatures and melt-blend into the host polymer system. This property results in both excellent dispersibility and subsequent molding performance. [Pg.40]
