Push pins

The drag sled snrface sampler (Fignre 3.5) is a simple device constructed of a 7.6-cm X 7.6-cm x 1.9-cm thick block of wood or other material, which is used to hold down a 10-cm x 10-cm piece of denim cloth sampling medium as it is dragged across the floor. The bottom of the block is covered with solveut-riused aluminum foil and the denim patch is placed over the foil. Staples or push-pins are typically used to secure the sampling medium to the block. A 3.6kg weight is centered on top of the block to provide a downward pressure of 4500 Pa. The... [Pg.82]

When the mold is opened, the part should be easily removable. Cavities are made with a slight taper to reduce frictional drag of the part on the mold. The half of the mold attached to the movable platen is equipped with ejector pins, which push the part out of the cavity while the mold is being opened. When the mold is closed, the pins are flush with the cavity surface. Release agents or lubricants facilitate ejection and shorten the mol ding cycle. Some complex parts require that the mold open in several directions in addition to the direction of the platen movement. For a threaded part, eg, a bottle cap, part of the mold must be rotated to remove the article from the mold. [Pg.142]

Once wound, the separator is cut and the loose end taped to the spiral. The spiral is pushed off the winding pin and inserted into a can. The can is filled with electrolyte and the separator must be wetted quickly by the electrolyte so that the header (or cover) can be installed in the next processing step. [Pg.554]

Replacement of caps and ejection of filled capsules The cap and body bushing portions are rejoined. Pins are used to push the filled bodies up into the caps for closure and to push the closed capsules out of the bushings. Compressed air also may be used to eject the capsules. [Pg.347]

There is an experiment that is often used in polymer demonstrations. Pointed objects such as long pins and sticks are gently pushed into a blow-up balloon without exploding the balloon. This results because the rubber polymer chains form about the impacting object to seal up the hole created by the object. Thus, even in its seemingly solid state, the rubber balloon s polymer chains are sufficiently mobile to allow it to heal itself. [Pg.293]

The practice of throwing darts at books reminds me of Hebrew scholars from Poland in the early 20th century, who were able to recall the entire contents of the thousands of pages in the twelve-volume Babylonian Talmud. Some had such good memories that, when a pin was pushed through the pages of a volume, the hyper-scholar could recall each of the words pierced by the pin. [Pg.68]

When the delay indicator on the fuze body is rotated to some arming delay mark, the index lock pin must be pushed inward in order to release the index ring. If delay time of less than 6-sec is desired, the stop screw must be removed prior to selecting an arming time. The striker assembly, contg a steel ball, spring, and firing... [Pg.973]
