Push-off

Bromide ion forms a bond to the primary carbon by pushing off a water molecule This step IS bimolecular because it involves both bromide and heptyloxonium ion Step 2 IS slower than the proton transfer m step 1 so it is rate determining Using Ingold s ter mmology we classify nucleophilic substitutions that have a bimolecular rate determining step by the mechanistic symbol Sn2... [Pg.164]

Primary alcohols do not react with hydrogen halides by way of carbo cation intermediates The nucleophilic species (Br for example) attacks the alkyloxonium ion and pushes off a water molecule from carbon m a bimolecular step This step is rate determining and the mechanism is Sn2... [Pg.181]

An important variation of this filter is based on replacing the rigid outer waU necessary for containing the feed and the cake on the rotating table by an endless mbber belt. The belt is held under tension and rotates with the table. It is in contact with the table rim except for the sector where the discharge screw is positioned, and where the belt is deflected away from the table to aUow the soHds to be pushed off the table. The cloth can also be washed in this section by high pressure water sprays. This filter, recendy developed in Belgium, is avaUable in sizes up to 250 m, operated at speeds of 2 minutes per revolution, and cake thicknesses up to 200 mm. [Pg.395]

A significant aspect of hip joint biomechanics is that the stmctural components are not normally subjected to constant loads. Rather, this joint is subject to unique compressive, torsion, tensile, and shear stress, sometimes simultaneously. Maximum loading occurs when the heel strikes down and the toe pushes off in walking. When an implant is in place its abiUty to withstand this repetitive loading is called its fatigue strength. If an implant is placed properly, its load is shared in an anatomically correct fashion with the bone. [Pg.189]

Once wound, the separator is cut and the loose end taped to the spiral. The spiral is pushed off the winding pin and inserted into a can. The can is filled with electrolyte and the separator must be wetted quickly by the electrolyte so that the header (or cover) can be installed in the next processing step. [Pg.554]

Air Bacfiflush A configuration unique to microfiltration feeds the process stream on the shell side of a capillary module with the permeate exiting the tube side. The device is run as an intermittent deadend filter. Every few minutes, the permeate side is pressurized with air. First displacing the liquid permeate, a blast of air pushed backward through the membrane pushes off the layer of accumulated solids. The membrane skin contacts the process stream, and while being backwashed, the air simultaneously expands the capillary and membrane pores slightly. This momentary expansion facilitates the removal of imbedded particles. [Pg.56]

Dennis was oddly preoccupied, yet he assured me that his effort had succeeded and that all over the world the wave of hyper-carbolation was sweeping through the human race, eliminating the distinction between the individual and the community as everyone discovered themselves spontaneously pushing off into a telepathic ocean whose name was that of its discoverer Dennis McKenna. [Pg.90]

We went downstairs, carrying his oar and the gondola cushions, and only when he pushed off from the loggia did I tell him I wanted to call on Carlo Celsi. He looked relieved, for there was nothing subversive about visiting a senior and respected patrician. It was the subject of our discussion that would be dangerous for me. By then the Maestro had explained his warped humor. [Pg.66]

Winstein-Parker spectrum is the E2 transition state (42), in which the base pulls off the proton and pushes off the leaving group simultaneously.88... [Pg.365]

They boarded the government gondola and their boatmen pushed off, letting Marco disembark at the end of thecalle. That left Gritti, Vasco, a surprised-looking Giorgio, and me. [Pg.108]
