Pumps diameter

In general, the first set of pump affinity law is more accurate than the second set. The second set of pump affinity law is less accurate, if pump diameter is reduced too much or pump has higher specific speed. [Pg.36]

The complete filtration apparatus is shown in Fig. 5, p. 11. A simpler and cheaper apparatus is shown in Fig. 45. This consists of a boiling-tube A having a side-arm for connection to the pump the tube A is conveniently held in a wooden or cork block B or in a clamp. The funnel F may be fitted into A through a pliable rubber disc D the latter is more useful than a cork since it covers tubes of various diameters. The filtrate is collected in the centrifuge-tube T. [Pg.67]

Allow the reddish-yellow solution to cool to about 40° and then filter off at the pump the polyene which has separated this filtration should be performed as rapidly as possible to avoid contamination with lead acetate, and a Buchner funnel of not less than 6 cm. diameter should therefore be used to avoid clogging the filter. Wash the crude production the filter with... [Pg.238]

To accommodate smaller liquid flows of about 10 pl/min, micro-ultrasonic nebulizers have been designed. Although basically similar in operation to standard ultrasonic nebulizers, in these micro varieties, the end of a very-small-diameter capillary, through which is pumped the sample solution, is in contact with the surface of the transducer. This arrangement produces a thin stream of solution that runs down and across the center of the face of the transducer. The stream of sample... [Pg.148]

In Section 2.3.5.1 we have seen that pumping of atoms or molecules through a narrow slit, or small pinhole, whose width (or diameter) is about 20 pm at a pressure of a few torr on the high-pressure side of the aperture produces an efllisive beam. Removal of pressure... [Pg.393]

The Gaudfrin disk filter, designed for the sugar industry and available in Prance since 1959, is also similar in design to a vacuum disk filter but it is enclosed in a pressure vessel with a removable Hd. The disks are 2.6 m in diameter, composed of 16 sectors. The cake discharge is by air blowback, assisted by scrapers if necessary, into a chute where it may be either reslurried and pumped out of the vessel or, for pasty materials, pumped away with a monopump without reslurrying. [Pg.405]

Friction Coefficient. In the design of a heat exchanger, the pumping requirement is an important consideration. For a fully developed laminar flow, the pressure drop inside a tube is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the inside tube diameter. For a turbulent flow, the pressure drop is inversely proportional to D where n Hes between 4.8 and 5. In general, the internal tube diameter, plays the most important role in the deterrnination of the pumping requirement. It can be calculated using the Darcy friction coefficient,, defined as... [Pg.483]

Several wick stmctures are in common use. First is a fine-pore (0.14—0.25 mm (100-60 mesh) wire spacing) woven screen which is roUed into an annular stmcture consisting of one or more wraps inserted into the heat pipe bore. The mesh wick is a satisfactory compromise, in many cases, between cost and performance. Where high heat transfer in a given diameter is of paramount importance, a fine-pore screen is placed over longitudinal slots in the vessel wall. Such a composite stmcture provides low viscous drag for Hquid flow in the channels and a small pore size in the screen for maximum pumping pressure. [Pg.514]

The pumping number is a function of impeller type, the impeller/tank diameter ratio (D/T), and mixing Reynolds number Re = pND /p.. Figure 3 shows the relationship (2) for a 45° pitched blade turbine (PBT). The total flow in a mixing tank is the sum of the impeller flow and flow entrained by the hquid jet. The entrainment depends on the mixer geometry and impeller diameter. For large-size impellers, enhancement of total flow by entrainment is lower (Fig. 4) compared with small impellers. [Pg.420]
