Pultruded fiberglass

The primary UPR end markets are construction, automotive, and marine industries widi applications such as house paneling, tub and shower applications, chemical-resistant storage tanks, pultruded profiles, and fiberglass composite boat hulls. The UPR industry is mature, with a world production close to 1.7 million tons (Table 2.2), but must face two important issues increasingly strict regulations for styrene emissions and poor recycling potential for polyester thermosets.48 49...

Many manufacturers preferably draw glass filaments from inside the winder and not from outside, so as to convey a helicoidal movement to the filament in any case, there is only a slight difference in the final effect. The end of the winder can then be connected to the initial part of the successive one in order to allow for continuity. Glass filaments are kept separated from each other through ad hoc rails in the shape of rings, usually made of ceramic material or steel with chromium beads, so as to prevent the abrasion action on the filament and to increase the durabihfy of the rad. Cases of fiberglass rakes are also frequent, which are made from a combination of pultruded members. 

Pultrusion. Another method by which thermoplastic fiber-reinforced polymers are produced is pultrusion. In pultrusion, an appropriately designed bundle of continuous fiber strands is drawn through a die along with a molten thermoplastic matrix material. The die serves to consolidate the material combination, and as the matrix material solidifies on exiting the die, a continuous fiber-reinforced structure is produced. Examples of pultruded products include fiberglass rods and reinforced water hoses.
