Abscesses pulmonary

Signs and Symptoms Pneumonia with or without bacteremia. Pulmonary abscesses, fluid (pleural effusion) and pus (empyema) in the chest cavity may occur. In acute cases pus is discharged from the nose. There are ulcers in the mucous membranes of the nose and possibly the pharynx. [Pg.513]

Pulmonary infections In pulmonary infections, pneumonia, pulmonary abscesses, and pleural effusion can occur Chest X rays vdl show localized infection in the lobes of the lungs. [Pg.384]

No adverse health effects were observed in male rats exposed by inhalation to 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine free base (23,700 mg/m ) 2 hours per day for 7 days (Gerarde and Gerarde 1974). In another study, 10 rats were exposed to an unspecified concentration of 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine dihydrochloride dust particles for 1 hour and then observed for 14 days. Slight-to-moderate pulmonary congestion and one pulmonary abscess were observed upon necropsy (Gerarde and Gerarde 1974). The effects observed in the study using the ionized (hydroehloride) form of 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine may have been due to the irritative properties of hydrochlorie aeid released from the salt in combination with particulate toxicity. [Pg.34]

Cefepime is used for bacterial infections caused by microorganisms that are sensitive to drugs in septicemia, bacteriemia, complicated infections of the upper and lower sections of the urinary system, pneumonia, pulmonary abscesses, emphysema of the pleura, fever in patients with neutropenia, and infected skin and soft tissue wounds. Synonyms of this drug are maxipime, cepim, cepimex, and others. [Pg.462]

It is used for severe bacterial infections peritonitis, sepsis, meningitis, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, pneumonia, pleural empyema, pulmonary abscess, purulent skin infections and soft tissue infections, and infections of the urinary tract caused by microorganisms that are sensitive to the drug. Synonyms of this drug are nebicine, obracine, and others. [Pg.480]

Arundo donax L. A. phragmites L. (Syn. Phragmites communis) Lu Zhu Lu Gen (root) Glycosides, protein, asparagin.49 Stomachic, antiemetic, antipyretic, in acute arthritis, jaundice, pulmonary abscess, food poisoning. [Pg.36]

C. laurentii is an additional species of clinical importance (pulmonary abscess) which belongs to the Tremellales [24, 80, 262, 381]. Based on partial 26S rDNA and complete 18S rDNA sequences, the genus Cryptococcus is polyphyletic and occurs in at least five different clades of the Tremellales, and within the Cystofilobasidiales [24, 381] (fig. 4). [Pg.262]

Pulmonary abscess is treated according to the organism identified and with surgery if necessary. [Pg.241]

Symptoms include discharge of mucus and pus from the nose, ulcers in the nose and throat, and pneumonia. May produce pulmonary abscesses and fluid in the chest cavity. Illness may be either acute or chronic. [Pg.207]

The primary alteration of the respiratory tract of patients with cystic fibrosis is the hypersecretion of mucus. It is not known whether the mucus is normal or contains excessive amounts of electrolytes. In any case, the mucus secretion is not properly evacuated. It first occludes the smaller bronchi. If the occlusion is incomplete, the alveoli become distended, the inspired air cannot be expired, and emphysematous blebs develop. If the obstruction is complete, atelectasis occurs. The changes in the bronchi and the pulmonary parenchyma favor infection, especially by staphylococci. Pulmonary abscesses, bronchial pneumonia, bronchitis, and pneumonia develop in fact, children with cystic fibrosis often die from respiratory infection. Pneumothorax, hemoptysis, and emphysema are rare complications of the pulmonary disturbance observed in cystic fibrosis (see Fig. 4-46). [Pg.321]

CT can further demonstrate complications of airway obstruction like postobstructive pneumonia, pulmonary abscess formation, pleural effusion, pleural empyema, lobar and pulmonary atelectasis, and lymph node involvement. [Pg.258]
