Pull wires

The principle of the safety match is also used in the pull-wire fuse lighter used to start a fuse train for the ignition of fireworks items or more frequently for blasting work. This is a reversed pull match whereby the striker material is coated on a pull wire, and the match head material is within a small metal cup in a cardboard tube. Pulling the coated wire vigorously out of the device ignites the match mixture in the tube for fire transfer to the tubular fuse train. 

A booby trap device which may be activated by a pull wire or by tilting of object to which applied, such as luggage, door handle, or hinged cover of box. 

This simple item provides perhaps the best and easiest method of firing a charge electrically by means of a pull wire. It may be rigged so the target trips the wire or it may be controlled by the operator from a safe distance. It is an excellent device to use with bazooka rockets against trucks, tanks, or locomotives.

The fuze is set by means of a fuze setter, the lower cap being turned in a counterclockwise direction as viewed from the point of the fuze to increase the setting, and clockwise to reduce it. In the case of early M43A1 fuzes, it is necessary to remove the pull wire before setting the fuze. This can be done readily by pulling the end of the wire from the hole in the lower cap and sliding the wire off the end of the fuze...

Its operation was exactly the same as the Type 94 Float Flare described above Navy Flare Ball was a large cardboard sphere 9 inches in diam with a dome top covering a paper-covered BkPdr Fuse and a dome bottom contg BkPdr chge in a celluloid cap. The main container carried a cluster of 12 flares attached to a large green tissue parachute. The flare cluster was bedded in a quantity of cottonseed which filled most of the lower half of the sphere. A pull wire permitted removal of the top dome and allowed access to the BkPdr fuse for ignition (Ref 1, p 247, Fig 409)...

Tree-Suspended Flare was usually suspended above the ground near the front lines and could be ignited either electrically or by pull wires.

The Russians, Conunimist Chinese, and North Koreans boobytrapped wooden antitank mines by laying two of them, one on top of the other, in the same hole. The mines were connected by an MUV poll fuze and a pull wire, so that the botlom mine WDuU detonate when the top mine was lifted.

The Germans converted their own and enemy standard canteens into booby traps. The explosive charge was detonated by a pull fuze and a pull wire connected to the cap. When panially filled with water and placed in its canvas case it was very deceptive. The canteen booby-trap had an elective radius of 3 to 5 yards.
