From the date of Hoeta Galoeng s publication, in any event, educated Bataks had access to a universal schema of their relationships. This has been enormously influential in establishing common origin and relationship as the key symbolic issue of Batak identity, particularly among the Toba for whom the system seems to work pretty well. [Pg.159]

One of the most widely used chemical structure-encoding schemas in the pharmaceutical industry is the MDL Connection Table (CT) File Format. Both Molfile and SD File are based on MDL CT File Format to represent chemical structures. A Molfile represents a single chemical structure. An SD File contains one to many records, each of which has a chemical structure and other data that are associated with the structure. MDL Connection Table File Format also supports RG File to describe a single Rgroup query, rxnfile, which contains structural information of a single reaction, RD File, which has one to many records, each of which has a reaction and data associated with the reaction, and lastly, MDL s newly developed XML representation of the above—XD File. The CT File Format definition can be downloaded from the MDL website http //www.mdl.com/downloads/public/ctfile/ctfile.jsp. [Pg.3]

In 1983, as a counter-measure against the ongoing successes of revisionists, a compilation was published, principally the work of French and German establishment historians.42 While this book ridiculed and insulted revisionists and cast political aspersions against them, and at the same time was intended to refute their claims, it does neither address any particular revisionist argument, nor are any revisionist publications quoted or authors named, so that it is impossible to the reader of this book to verify the polemic accusations made against the revisionists. This book also repeats the mistake often emphasized by revisionists quotations from eye-witness testimony and passages from documents were taken out of context and pasted uncritically into a predetermined historical schema. [Pg.31]

Consequence and solution Women s inadequate access to information and public notice. As a result of gender schemas that portray women as less professionally competent and ambitious than men, women end up with less information and less public notice than do men. Compared to men, women have less access to informal routes of information and are less likely to be given opportunities by their superiors to receive public notice. For example, a recent study of the Johns Hopkins University Department of Medicine within the School of Medicine demonstrated that senior faculty were six times as likely to suggest names of junior male faculty rather than female faculty to chair conference sessions. Qualified junior women were also less likely to be identified as candidates for promotion compared with qualified junior men.23 Thus, women are not as likely to be identified as star material, and as their careers continue they become less and less likely to be perceived as important scientific contributors to their field. [Pg.30]

Consider the example of Fig. 5.4a, which is a variation of the example presented previously. Here, the first source consists of only the three relational tables Public-Company, Public-Grant, and Contact, while the target consists of only the table Company. As before, the intra-schema lines represent schema constraints, and in the particular example are foreign key constraints. The red dotted inter-schema lines represent the correspondences. Note that the appearance of an attribute with the same or similar name in both schemas does not necessarily mean that the two attributes represent the same fact. For instance, consider the attributes symbol and id. Although in the companies world these terms may be used interchangingly, in the specific example, the lack of a line among them may be justified by a case in which the attribute id may represent the fiscal number of the company while the attribute symbol may be the symbol with which the company appears in the stock exchange. [Pg.122]

As of the year 2000, the DTD was the predominant method for schematizing XML documents. As the decade progressed, XML Schema became the dominant schematizing technology for XML. That same trend has been mirrored in research schema evolution techniques introduced earlier in the decade focused more on changes to a DTD, while more recent publications cover the far more expressive XML Schema recommendation. [Pg.176]

Figure 1 shows a schema for an ideal distributed chemical information system. Several authors in this book refer to the need for standard interfaces. Ultimately, the personal computer will provide the graphics interface not only to personal computer databases but also to company databases running on the company mainframe, and possibly also through the same network to public hosts, so that the chemist using a personal workstation will be able to create queries which can be addressed to local files, company files and public files. Soon, chemical databases will be available on Compact Disk Read Only Memory (CD-ROM) searchable by both substructure and text. These too fit into the scheme of Figure 1. Databases such as infra-red spectra libraries will have structure-searchable components either on the personal computer or on the laboratory instrument and will also be used through the same graphical interface. Recently, computer simulation of a whole cell under mechanical stresses has received increasing attention because of the critical effects of stresses on battery life. This section introduces relevant schema used in two recent publications [55, 56]. [Pg.893]
