The propionic esters ore very similar to the acetic esters in physical and chemical praperties vrith the difference that the former have a higher boiling point, lower evaporation rate and a lesser power of solubility. They are miscible with many of the lacquer solvents and diluents and possess a distinctive but not a disagreeable odar. The consumption of these esters far solvent purposes is relatively small compared to the highly developed acetate esters. [Pg.832]

Novolac polymers are soluble in a variety of common organic solvents. Resist films are typically cast from organic solutions (propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, or PGMEA, is a common solvent) to form isotropic, glassy, thin films. These polymers are also soluble in aqueous alkaline solutions due to the presence of the acidic phenolic functionalities on the polymer backbone. It is this base solubility that is exploited in the development process. In order to print a relief image in a photoresist, it must be possible to modify the dissolution rate of the resist upon exposure to radiation. It is not the... [Pg.3321]

Conventional oil-based inks contain aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene or xylene, aliphatic hydrocarbons such as hexane or kerosene, ketones such as methyl ethyl ketone, esters such as ethyl acetate, or solvents such as propylene glycol mono methyl ether acetate. The problems with such inks are that their fast drying time due to low boiling points or flash points are likely to clog up the nozzle. [Pg.167]

Their acetate esters are also used. Ethylene glycol-based ether-alcohols and their esters are now less used on account of their toxicity, being replaced by the propylene glycol versions. [Pg.121]
