3- propyl group

Tricyclic Antidepressants. Imipramine [50-49-7] (32), which was the first tricycHc antidepressant to be developed, is one of many useful psychoactive compounds derived from systematic molecular modifications of the antihistamine prometha2ine [60-87-7] (see Histamine and histamine antagonists). The sulfur atom of prometha2ine was replaced with an ethylene bridge and the dimethylamino group attached to an / -propyl group, rather than to an isopropyl one, of the side chain. The actual synthesis of (32) is typical of the compounds in this class (37). 

Antibiotic Bu-2545, 7-0-methyl-4 -depropyIlincomycin [75007-09-9] (1, R = OCH3, R = H but lacking the 4 -propyl group), C23H3QN2O3S, produced by Streptomjces strain No. H 230-5, possesses stmctural features in common with both celesticetin and lincomycin (46,47). 

The cumene molecule can be visualized as a straight-chain propyl group having a benzene ring attached at the middle carbon. 

The NMR spectra show that the product of the reaction contains the propyl group A of l-ethoxy-2-propylbuta-1,3-diene,... 

A polymethacrylate copolymer is modified by successive reaction with epichlorohydrin, w-aminophenylboric acid, and nitric acid to introduce a 1-amino-(2 -nitrophenyl-5 -boric acid)-2-hydroxyl-3-o-propyl group. The modified polymethacrylates are used as chromatographic support materials and can be used to analyze biological materials without prior deproteinization (35).

The name ethyl is derived from the name of the parent hydrocarbon, ethane. In the same way the name of the methyl group (CH3—) is derived from that of methane, CH4 the name of the propyl group (CH3CH2CH2—) is derived from propane, CH3CH2CH3 etc. 

The only other C5(i-Pr)5 complex, Mo(Pr5Cp)(CO)3CH3 (30) also shows fluxional iso-propyl groups at 100 °C, but below the coalescence temperature two isomers in the ratio 4 3 are obeserved according to, 3C NMR spectra. They are... 

The preparation of the lemon juice for analysis was simple, a sample of the lemon juice was filtered and 5 pi placed on the column. The separation was carried out on a novel bonded phase carrying amino-propyl groups. The separation obtained is shown in figure 11.

In the first step bromocriptine 2 is isomerized to 2a, followed by an attack on proline ring in aminocyclol moiety of the molecule (formation of a new double bound on lO -ll, and bromination). This dibromo-compound 5 is brominated additionally on C-2 -propyl group. Tribromo-compound fi is very lipophilic and practically devoid of pharmacological activity. Hydroxy group and amide groups remain intact after all these reactions. 

The electronic absorption spectra of the products of one-electron electrochemical reduction of the iron(III) phenyl porphyrin complexes have characteristics of both iron(II) porphyrin and iron(III) porphyrin radical anion species, and an electronic structure involving both re.sonance forms Fe"(Por)Ph] and tFe "(Por—)Ph has been propo.sed. Chemical reduction of Fe(TPP)R to the iron(II) anion Fe(TPP)R) (R = Et or /7-Pr) was achieved using Li BHEt3 or K(BH(i-Bu)3 as the reductant in benzene/THF solution at room temperature in the dark. Itiswer The n-propyl group had best come from an amide (13) which could be the Ritter product if EtCM is used. Making (13) by more conventional methods Is fine, too. 

Propyl groups are usually just drawn, bnt sometimes you will see the term Pr (which stands for propyl) ... 

It is still a chain of three carbon atoms, but it is attached to the parent chain differently than a propyl group is attached, so we call it isopropyl. This is an example of a branched substituent (branched, because it is not connected in one straight line to the parent chain, like a propyl group is).
