The dry ice blaster is an effective and mess-free method for in-place cleaning that eliminates the need to disassemble machinery before it is cleaned. Compressed air propels tiny dry ice pellets at supersonic speeds so they flash freeze and then lift grime, paint, rust, mold, and other contaminants from metal surfaces. Pellets vaporize quickly into the air, leaving no wastewater or solvents, only the soiled contaminant to be swept up. [Pg.176]

Ammonium nitrate finds major applications in explosives and fertilizers, and additional uses in pyrotechnics, freezing mixtures (for obtaining low temperatures), as a slow-burning propellant for missiles (when formulated with other materials, including burning-rate catalysts), as an ingredient in rust inhibitors (especially for vapor-phase corrosion), and as a component of insecticides. [Pg.53]

The term SINOXID is made up of sine and oxide and means without rust . It underlines the fact that this composition is not susceptible to corrosion as against mercury fulminante or potassium chlorate mixtures. SINOXID compositions consist of the following components Lead tricinate, -> tetracene, - Barium Nitrate, lead dioxide, antimony trisulfide and calcium silicide. These components meet all requirements currently applied in ammunition technology. Communities near chemical weapon storage depots in the United States are understandably worried about accidental spills or releases. M55 rockets containing large quantities of sarin (SB) are of particular concern. Some of this ordnance has been known to leak, and there is a very small risk of explosion from propellants. Extra safety precautions have been instituted to ensure safe incineration and to limit the amounts of effluent released into the environment.
