A possibility to avoid the CM stage is offered by the modified method for preparation of in situ MFCs based on consecutive slit or rod extrusion, hot stretching and quenching [32,37,38,42,43,47,62] used to process thermoplastic polymer blends, mostly polyolefins and PET. Rotational molding of LDPE/PET beads has also been attempted for the same purpose [34], but the reinforcing effect was insufficient due to the uneven distribution of the reinforcing fibrils and due to their reversion to spheres losing their MFC structure in this particular case. [Pg.471]

Isosorbide polyurethanes, especially those based on aliphatic isocyanates, may be useful in the same applications as conventional polyurethanes i.e. thermoplastics, coatings, and foams. In fact, excellent rigid foams have been obtained from P(I-MDI)(5). Isosorbide has a low melting point of 61°C and it is suitable for use in reactive injection molding processes alone or in the form of a mixture with other conventional diols. ALLYL ESTER RESINS. The allyl radical (CH2CH=CH2) is the basis of the allyl family of resins. Allyl esters arc based on monobasic and dibasic acids and are available as low-viscosity monomers and thermoplastic prepolymers. They are used as crosslinking agents for unsaluraied polyester resins and in the preparation of reinforced thermoset molding compounds and high-performance transparent articles. Substitute for Conventional Vulcanized Rubbers, For this application, the products are processed by techniques and equipment developed for conventional thermoplastics, ie, injection molding, extrusion, etc. The S—B—S and S—EB—S polymers are preferred (small amounts of S—EP—S are also used). To obtain a satisfactory balance of properties, they must be compounded with oils, fillers, or other polymers compounding reduces costs.
