These remarkable factors have contributed to Earth maintaining a temperature range conducive to the evolution of life for billions of years. The great circulation systems of Earth - water, carbon and the nutrients - replenish what life needs and help regulate the climate system. Earth is a dynamic planet the continents, atmosphere, oceans, ice and hfe ever changing, ever interacting in myriad ways. These complex and interconnected processes comprise the Earth system, which forms the basis of the scientific research and space observation that we refer to as Earth system science. ... 

Plasma is the water-rich component of the blood within which the blood cells and platelets circulate. It plays an important role in material transport, pH regulation, and other metabolic processes in the human body. Plasma interactions with earth materials are restricted to breaks in the skin and vascular system. 

The Earth s climate depends among other parameters (see later) on the chemical composition of the atmosphere. Thus, any variation in the composition raises the possibility of climatic change. First of all, the chemical composition regulates the radiation balance of the Earth-atmosphere system. However, since differences in radiation balance in various geographical regions control the atmospheric circulation, there is also a relationship between composition and dynamic processes. In this chapter we shall deal mainly with the effects of compositional variations on the radiation balance. Moreover, the significance of so-called feedback mechanisms will also be stressed.
