Classical ISCO uses ready-made chemicals, which can be used only once (Acar et al, 1995). With on-site electrochemical production of oxidants, chemicals with short lifetimes (in the range of a few hours) can be used. No stabilization of peroxides is necessary, the danger of a high quantity of chemicals is avoided, and because of the constant production and consumption process, logistics are easier to handle. The best case is a closed loop of production to transportation to reaction to transportation to production of the mediators (see Fig. 22.1).
