Process computer rooms control system areas

The distributed control system (DCS) hardware areas are often referred to as "process computer rooms." I/O Rooms contain the incoming and outgoing wiring, cables and data highway links, and often small transformers and other related electrical equipment. Often, additional space is needed for a master process engineering computer terminal/work station for process control system changes and for critical safety instrumented systems (SIS) for interlocks and emergency shutdowns. 

Separate rooms should be provided for I/O wiring panels, the process distributed control computer hardware and related systems. Motor Control Centers (MCC), UPS, and battery rooms. A minimum 1-hour fire-rated partition wall should be provided to ensure isolation of I/O and MCC areas from control rooms. 

Development work in the pilot-plant production of the vinyl ether intermediate was performed on a Mettler Toledo ReactlR MP m. This instrument was the hrst generation of explosion-proof manufacturing technology available from Mettler Toledo. Setup requirements for the incorporation of the ReactlR monitoring system into the vinyl ether process in the pilot plant were minor. Installation of a fiber optics cable and protective conduit from the pilot-plant operations area to the control room, allowing communication between the acquisition computer (contained within the ReactlR MP ) and the monitoring station, was the most extensive mechanical modification. ... 

The computer-aided signal momtoring, processing and display system has been installed in the control room of PARR-1, besides the main operation console. This is a compact, economical system that constantly updates important reactor data and informs reactor operator and users about the reactor status. In this way the application of computer has considerably enhanced the plant momtonng capabilities. Figs. 10-11 show the photographs of the computer and one TV monitor located in the reactor user area at the beam port floor.
