Private sales

Starting February 28, 1994, the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Law (the Brady Act) required a five-day waiting period for all handguns purchased from dealers (but not private sales). This resulted in waiting periods being enforced in 32 states that did not previously have them. The federal... [Pg.40]

Section 14 contains two important implied conditions where the seller is selling in the course of a business, in contrast to a private sale. The first is that the goods must be of a merchantable quality unless the seller has drawn the buyer s attention to the defect or the buyer has examined the goods and should have detected the faults before the contract was made (Wilson v. Rickett, Cockerell Co. Ltd ). The second implied condition is that where the buyer has expressly or by implication made known to the seller the particular purpose for which the goods are bought then such goods must be reasonably fit for such purpose (Henry Kendall Sons v. William Lillico Sons Ltd ). [Pg.85]

Class III devices, unless they are substantially equivalent to a device already marketed without a PMA appHcation, require formal PDA approval through the PMA process before initial sale. The PMA process is comparable to the new dmg approval process (18). In both cases, safety and effectiveness data must be reviewed by PDA prior to marketing. An approved PMA appHcation acts like a private Hcense granted to the appHcant to market a particular device. Other firms seeking to market the same type of device for the same use must also have an approved PMA. [Pg.85]

Economic summaries of the cosmetic industry, commonly documented by sales volume, are sometimes based on unit sales, sometimes on manufacturers sales in monetary units, and sometimes on consumer spending. Figures normally include contributions by private labeling operations but do not necessarily reflect the value of the industry service sector, which includes suppHers of raw materials, beauticians, testing laboratories, and other speciaHsts. Moreover, product categories caimot be rigidly defined. For example, the differentiation between a deodorant (a cosmetic) and an antiperspirant (an OTC dmg) is often obscured by its trade name. [Pg.285]

The average life of a car is 10 years. New car sales amounted to 368,000 units in the MCMA in 1989, compared to 136,000 in 1984. Vehicular transportation accounts for 22.4 million personal journeys a day 51% are taken to go to work, 24% to school, 8% for shopping, 3% for entertainment, and 14% in other activities. Although 79.4% of personal journeys are made by public transport, those 19.0% related to the use of private cars are sufficient to create traffic jams, low transit speeds and 70.4% of vehicular emissions. [Pg.154]

The Promochem Group was the first international specialist supplier of certified reference materials (CRMs) and pharmaceutical reference substances used in environmental, medical and trace element analysis. Their experience provides a viewpoint that echoes, reinforces and expands on many of the trends discussed above (Jenks 1997). From the middle of the 1980 s, sales of CRM by Promochem increased between 10 % and 20 % annually, depending on the market sector and application. Since then National and International Metrology Institutes, such as the now privatized U.K. Laboratory of the Government Chemist (LGC), the European and U.S. Pharmacopoeias, the E.U. IRMM and others have recognized that efficient distribution of RMs, backed by available technical support, is as important as production and certification. Thus, they have moved to spread their influence outside their national origins. The Web and e-commerce will continue to grow as major facilitators of better information dissemination and supply of CRMs. [Pg.289]

About half of the world black tea production is sold through auctions. These take place weekly during the producing season in the manufacturing countries. Major auctions are held in Mombasa, Cochin, Calcutta, Columbo, and Jakarta. In addition, large quantities of tea are sold in London auctions as bulked lots in Rotterdam, and through private or government sales in several countries. [Pg.66]

First, a solution should be found to the problem of the accessibility of data on the consumption and sale of medicines at the various levels of aggregation both the public data published by the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and the private data by Intercontinental Medical Systems (IMS). We think it would be possible to reach an agreement that would safeguard the privacy of the individual, statistical secrecy and the commercial interests of the dmg... [Pg.212]

The sale of Elk Hills was the nation s largest public divestiture. In 1996, Congress decided that the properties no longer served the national defense purposes as envisioned in the early 1900s, and authorized steps towards divestment or privatization. [Pg.43]

In 1995 the Clinton Administration proposed placing the federally-owned Elk Hills Naval Petroleum Reserve on the market as part of its efforts to reduce the size of government and return inherently non-fed-eral functions to the private sector. In 1996, the Congress passed and the President signed the Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1996 containing authorization to proceed with the sale. In 1998 the Department of Energy sold Elk Hills to Occidental Petroleum for 3.65 Billion. [Pg.43]

In the late 1980s, the DOE shifted to the development of advanced higher temperature fuel cell technologies, especially molten carbonate and solid oxide fuel cell systems. Federal funding for these technologies resulted in private commercial manufacturing facilities and commercial sales. [Pg.185]

Fleet use is one strategy for alternative fuel commercialization. It was the main strategy that the DOE used in the 1990s to meet the goals of the Energy Policy Act of 1992. Vehicle fleets are typically driven twice as many miles compared to private vehicles and make up about one fourth of all U.S. light-duty vehicle sales. Many fleet vehicles have fixed daily routes and are regularly fueled at one location, so less infrastructure is needed to support fleet-based vehicles. [Pg.262]

And 1979 advanced our continuing "private" trade relationship to 2.3 billion, but we must remember that fully fifty percent of that figure reflects U.S. agricultural sales to China. [Pg.321]
