Epinephrine (Adrenalin, Bronkaid Mist, Primatene Mist, others). Epinephrine appears to directly stimulate all adrenergic receptor subtypes and is administered for a variety of reasons. Epinephrine is found in many antiasthmatic inhalation products because of its ability to stimulate beta-2 receptors on the bronchi. Because it stimulates vascular alpha-1 receptors, epinephrine may be applied topically to produce local vasoconstriction and control bleeding during minor surgical procedures (e.g., suturing superficial wounds). Likewise, epinephrine may be mixed with a local anes-... [Pg.278]

Maximal bronchodilation is achieved 15 minutes after inhalation and lasts 60-90 minutes. Because epinephrine stimulates 3i as well as receptors, tachycardia, arrhythmias, and worsening of angina pectoris are troublesome adverse effects. Epinephrine is the active agent in many nonprescription inhalants (eg, Primatene Mist) but is now rarely prescribed. [Pg.471]

Epinephrine (e.g., Primatene Mist) Adrenergic agonist causes bronchodiiation (P2 receptors), vasoconstriction (ai) andi secretions (ai). More detaii in Tabie 2.1. Used emergentiy for severe bronchoconstriction/vasodiiation (anaphyiaxis). Less potent than aibuteroi for maintainance, but avaiiabie without prescription. Tachycardia, metabolic and Gl abnormalities, CNS stimulation (See Table 2.1). [Pg.86]
