Pressure clamp

So-called white glues are particularly important. The chemical basis is polyvinyl acetate (PVA), the bonded joints - or traditionally adhesive gluings - are characterized by very high adhesive strengths, which usually result in adherend fractions after destructive testing. In order to avoid possible tensions, it is recommended to let the bonded joint set under even pressure (clamp) for more than the indicated...

The failure could have been prevented by joining the steam piping by welding instead of using high-pressure clamps. It can be stated that the root cause of the failure is human error in choosing stainless steel. 

FTIR analysis The FTIR spectra were obtained with an IRPrestige 21 Fourier Transform Spectrometer from Schimatzu, equipped with the MIRacle single reflection horizontal ATR accessory, with the crystal plate and purge tubes attached to the base, and a MIRacle pressure clamp. 

In order to make sure the silicon wafer is in intimate contact with the glass, a pressurized clamping is necessary. The clamping pressure is normally below 50 N.

There are numerous extensions of these basic techniques, such as hot wire instead of a hot bar, pressure clamps instead of rollers, etc. Methods (a), (b) and (c) are applicable to sheet welding, whilst method (d) is more readily adaptable to mouldings and extrusions.
