Pressure breaking

The bottom tray of a tower must have its downcomer sealed to prevent upflow of reboiled vapors. The downcomer of this tray is usually equal to or 6 in. longer than the other downcomers to ensure against bottom vapor surges or pulses in pressure breaking the seal. The seal pan is designed to avoid liquid back pressure and minimum restrictions to liquid flow. [Pg.154]

The heat and pressure breaks the chemical bonds in coal s complex molecular structure with the steam and oxygen forming a gaseous mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Gasification may be one of the better ways to produce hydrogen. [Pg.197]

One of the most exciting questions in solution chemistry is concerned with the effect of the pressure on the solvation shell of ions. From conductance data it was suggested that the pressure breaks up the structure in the bulk water and also in the local water structure near the ions. Opposite opinions also exist according to which the increase in pressure leads to an enhancement of the close hydration. MD simulation studies on a concentrated aqueous NaCl solution [23] showed almost no changes in the hydrate structures of the ions even at 10 kbar pressure. On the other hand, the H-bonded network of the water molecules is distorted in a similar way as it was found in pure water [40]. Because of extreme technical difficulties, only a few attempts were to determine the structure of pure solvents at elevated pressures and only one ND experiment is reported on aqueous solutions of a LiCl and a NiClj aqueous solution [24], leading to contradictory results. No XD diffraction studies were reported. [Pg.233]

The HAZOP team should check that piping pressure breaks are located correctly (strictly speaking, this is a design function, but it is so important that it behooves the HAZOP team to double check). The general procedure is as follows ... [Pg.247]

Pressure break n. As applied to a defect in a laminated plastic, a break apparent in one or more outer sheets of the paper, fabric, or other base visible through the surface layer of resin that covers it. [Pg.786]

For higher pressures, the assumption that ya and are independent of pressure breaks down. A number of approaches have been developed. One of the earliest was proposed by Chao and Seader (1961), wherein equations (4.1.25), written as... [Pg.214]
