H. The stem of G fits through the bung J to the filter-flask as shown. A bent tube K, Imown as a Pregl filter-tube, is fitted through another bung L into the upper neck of the funnel G. [Pg.504]

Now fit the weighed funnel G again to the filter-flask, and attach the Pregl filter-tube K as shown (Fig. 21). Apply 2i gentle suction from the water-pump, and dip the open limb of the tube K just below the surface of the liquid in the Carius tube. Draw off the supernatant liquid a little at a time until rather less than 1 ml. remains. Now gently shake the mixture in the Carius tube, and try to adjust the suction so... [Pg.504]

The meso-analytical methods here described are carried out with 20-30 mg. of material. They have been worked out on the basis of Pregl s micro-procedure by Dr. F. Holscher.1 For almost two years they have been in use in the Munich laboratories and have proved to be excellent they have displaced the macro-analytical methods completely here. [Pg.46]

During a period of two years we have obtained such good results in this laboratory with a procedure worked out, on the basis of Pregl s method, by Dr. F. Holscher that I have included it in this book. For this procedure 20-30 mg. of substance are required. The position has been reached where the candidate for the Doctor... [Pg.438]

It will be understood that, in working out this meso-analytical method now recommended we have made use, not only of the fundamental principles of Pregl, but also of all practical and tested improvements of other authors. (I propose the term meso-analytical instead of the clumsy half-micro .)... [Pg.439]

A recent brief review showed the working principles of various automatic analyzers6. A modified account of N and O analysis will be presented here. Today there exist in the market instruments that perform organic elemental analyses in a few minutes. The ease and speed of such analyses enable the use of such instruments for routine analysis. Although some operational details vary from model to model and between one manufacturer and another, all these instruments can be considered as exalted versions of the classical Pregl determination of C and H by conversion to CO2 and H2O, together with Dumas method for N by conversion to N2, the calorimetric bomb method for S by conversion to SO2 and SO3 and Schultzes method for O by conversion to CO. This is combined with modern electronic control, effective catalysts and instrumental measuring methods such as IR detectors and GC analyzers. [Pg.1045]

The phenotype of a potato plant is very plastic (environmentally variable) with regard to many traits of interest for potato breeders. The effect of production environment on traits such as yield, tuber number, tuber size, specific gravity, and processing quality presents a challenge that is difficult to overcome. It requires the testing of clones in multiple years and locations. For example, quantitative trait loci have been detected for tuber starch content, but few were stable across environments (Schafer-Pregl et al., 1998). Similarly, environment has a laige impact on... [Pg.45]
