Scope. This standard establishes the elements and activities for pre-project and pre-task safety and health planning in construction. [Pg.11]

Purpose. The primary purpose of this standard is to assist construction owners, project constructors and contractors in making pre-project and pretask safety and health planning a standard part of their planning processes. This standard is also intended to assist owners in establishing a process for evaluating project constructor candidate safety and health performance and planning practices. [Pg.11]

The planning supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the pre-tender stage health and safety plan is prepared so that prospective principal contractors can be fully aware of the project s health, safety and welfare requirements. It also helps the client to assess the resources being allocated to health and safety and the competence of the prospective principal contractor. [Pg.402]

There are, in effect, two plans - the pre-tender health and safety plan and the construction phase health and safety plan. The pre-tender plan is sent to prospective principal contractors so that they are fully aware of the health and safety risks associated with the project and the standard of health and safety performance expected of them. A pre-start meeting should be held by the principal contractor with each contractor to review their plan, and the overall site Safety Plan, in advance of commencement of work on site. The meeting can also be used to explain the principal contractor s role in safety, health and environmental management, together with any specific requirements related to the particular project. A follow-up meeting may be required. [Pg.109]
