Dissolve item 1 in a solution of items 2-A, mix with item 5, and dissolve item 6 at about 20°C. 

Cool to 5°-8°C and dissolve item 7. Maintain cool until all air bubbles have disappeared. 

Dissolve Lutrol F 127 and item 2 and adjust the pH value with item 4. 

Maintain cool until all air bubbles have escaped. Viscosity 61,000 mPa to- s 54,000 mPas (brook-held, 23°C). pH value (20% in water) 2.2M.6.

Although all methods were initially comparable, with bacterial reductions of greater than 99%, recolonization of a test site was significantly reduced after 60 minutes when prepared with an alcohol and iodophor drape, compared with the other methods. Jeng and Severin investigated the performance of a povidone-iodine gel alcohol (5% povidone-iodine and 62% ethanol in gel form) as a 30-second, one-time application preoperative skin preparation [20]. The povidone-iodine gel alcohol formulation delivered rapid and persistent antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of bacteria, both in vitro and in vivo, and was found to be an effective skin preparation formulation for use in a single-step 30-second application.

Povidone-iodine is a macromolecular complex (poly-I(I-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone) that is used as an iodophor. It is formulated as a 10% applicator solution, a 2% cleansing solution, and in many topical formulations, for example aerosol sprays, aerosol foams, vaginal gels, ointments, and mouthwashes. Because it contains very little free iodine (less than 1 ppm in a 10% solution) its antibacterial effectiveness is only moderate compared with that of a pure solution of iodine.
