Example 4 In pineapple fields where the intercrop of the rubber plant and sweet potato were used, it was observed that these fields were less weedy than the pineapple-rubber intercrop fields. It was also noted that in the pineapple-sweet potato Intercrop fields, there were more sweet potatoes harvested. Whether the sweet potatoes produced the allelochemicals to suppress the gaseous weeds in the pineapple fields or the pineapples produced the allelochemicals to stimulate the growth of the sweet potatoes or the rubber plants produced the allelochemicals to suppress the weeds has yet to be studied.

Potatoes harvested luider wet soil conditions should be dried immediately. Drying involves removal of water present on the outside of the potato or in the soil on the potatoes in order to eliminate conducive conditions for the multiplication of microorganisms and to prevent the spread of rot and other storage diseases (Sijbring, 1987). The ventilation fan should run continuously during this phase while the average potato pile temperature is allowed to settle... 

The method utilized will depend upon the number of hectares to be harvested, harvesting equipment available, value of the raw product, soil conditions, personal preference, and other considerations. The level of harvest technology varies with location, ranging from hand harvest of small plots to the use of modified multirow potato harvesters. 

Potatoes turn spongy in storage. Cause Cold injury. Cool temperatures can damage sweet potatoes. Harvest when air is above 50°F and store above 50°F to prevent injury. 

Meanwhile, a normal potato harvest was produced in 1848. That year, scurvy virtually disappeared. The famine had had the most appalling social consequences, particularly in Ireland, which are still felt today after nearly 150 years. 

The use of nonwoven polypropylene cover makes possible to start harvesting early, to increase the yield of new potatoes and to reduce yield variability in successive years, in comparison to cultivation without plant covering. The production effect of applying cover reflected in an increase in the tuber yield depends, to a high degree, on soil and climatic conditions and on the potato harvesting date (Table 3).

Onion tops are removed in the field with a flail harvester at harvest time and may be left in the field for 1-2 days to dry in windrows or irrunediately lifted with adapted potato harvesters and either box stored or bulk-loaded into store.
